Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has revealed that he is close to agreeing a loan deal for a mystery Premier League defender.

The Portman Road boss is looking for defensive cover after pulling out of the possible signing of Malaga's Cesar Navas.

Magilton ended negotiations with Navas after the Spaniard stalled over personal terms.

However, Magilton has now admitted he is close to securing the services of an unnamed defender from the top flight.

Could be O'Halloran from Aston Villa, an Irish u/21 also picked in their senior squad for 2007, or possibly Fitz Hall from Wigan. How are we going to pay them as wages came to the fore in previous transfer attempts.?
