Town News & Rumour Mill
Town trial for ex-Real stopper
Quote:
Former Real Madrid defender Cesar Navas is training with Ipswich Town.
Navas is an old team-mate of Pablo Counago, who has returned to Portman Road from Malaga earlier this month.
Having started his career at Real, Navas joined Malaga and was on loan at Gimnastic last season.
He is due to feature in Ipswich's pre-season friendly with Crawley on Tuesday, along with Arsene Menassou.
The French full-back has linked up with the Championship club from Le Havre and Town boss Jim Magilton is keen to check out the duo.
Magilton told the club's official website: "We will have a look at the two lads on Tuesday and see where we go from there."

Ipswich 'rebuffed' in Norris move
Quote:
Jim Magilton has revealed he has been 'rebuffed' in a move for Plymouth Argyle midfielder David Norris.
Ipswich manager Magilton is keen to add a ball-winning midfielder to his side and had renewed his interest in Norris after a failed attempt to sign the player during last season.
However, Argyle manger Ian Holloway wants to keep hold of Norris as he looks to form a side capable of building on last season's 11th placed Championship finish.
Norris has two years remaining on his Home Park contract and Magiliton has had to accept that the player is unlikely to be moving to Ipswich.
"I spoke to Ian Holloway about Norris but was rebuffed. It went to board level, but Plymouth made it clear he was not for sale, so that is the end of it for now," Magilton told the Evening Star.
Norris began his career at Boston United before Bolton paid £50,000 for his services in 2000.
Plymouth then paid £25,000 for the player in 2002 when an initial loan move was made permanent.

To be honest I have to say Jim Magilton have nothing to offer Ipswich. He don't manage to build up a decent side on Stamford Bridge.Bad choice by Ipswich giving him the management.

Hull still keen on Lee
Quote:
Phil Brown says Hull City's bid for Alan Lee is 'still alive', although Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton claims it has 'gone quiet'.
Hull have already seen a £600,000 offer rejected for the Republic of Ireland international, who has recently turned down a new deal at Portman Road.
Brown remains keen on the striker and has been encouraged by Ipswich lowering their valuation of Lee.
"The deal is still alive," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail. "The bid was put on the table, was turned down, but remains very much on the table.
"They have now made contact with us and have now come down in their estimation of Alan Lee.
"It's not a game of bluff or a game of stick or twist, it's just a case of our estimation is where it's at.
"If Ipswich are happy with that estimation and are willing to accept the bid then he could still become a Hull City player."
But Town manager Magilton believes there has been no progress with the transfer and has been happy with Lee's attitude in training.
Magilton told the club's official website: "It has gone quiet on the Alan Lee front and I'm delighted about that.
"We can't stop clubs bidding for our players and I have no problem with that because it means clubs like our players and that means they are doing something right at Ipswich Town.
"Alan's attitude and application have been top-class, he has worked really hard on his fitness over the summer and has looked sharp in training and games."

Williams wants contract talks
Quote:
Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams is hoping to sign a new deal to keep him at Portman Road until 2012.
Williams' current contract does not expire for another two years but there has still been speculation about his future.
Reports earlier in the summer claimed Jim Magilton could be ready to let him go and Stoke were linked with a move.
However, Williams would like to show his commitment to the club by penning a long-term deal and is eager for negotiations to begin.
"I have always maintained that I am happy at Ipswich, and I want to get fully match fit and then sit down and discuss signing a new contract," he told the East Anglian Daily Times.
"My current one runs out in 2009 and I would be delighted if I could extend it to say 2012."
Williams has only recently recovered from a long-standing pelvic problem but is optimistic of playing a full role this season.
"I made over 30 appearances last season despite having a niggling injury, and fully fit I can perform better this campaign," he said.
"I am confident I can play 40 games this season."
