Inter duo’s Empoli hangover Monday 4 February, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patrick Vieira has apologised for his dismissal against Empoli yesterday, while Dejan Stankovic is concerned about an injury he sustained.
Vieira made his long-awaited return from injury at San Siro, but his comeback lasted just 39 minutes as he was sent off for dissent.
The Nerazzurri still edged out the plucky Tuscans, but the French midfielder admits his guilt.
“I made a mistake,” he told the Inter Channel. “I told the referee to go to hell and I shouldn’t have done that. I regret leaving my side a man down.
“Luckily we won anyway and I’m happy about that. But at this time of great pressure on the officials I don’t want to say that the referee was wrong to send me off because it was my fault.”
While Vieira faces a suspension, Serbian star Dejan Stankovic could be absent after limping off with a potentially serious left thigh injury after 49 minutes.
“We have a couple of days to rest, but, without wanting to second guess, I would say that I will be out for a while,” he said gloomily.
“But I’m glad we took three points. We deserved to win as we showed character, desire and that we don’t fear anyone. This side is very strong even at the highest level and hard to beat, even with 10 men.”
It is only 15 days until the Beneamata take on Liverpool in the Champions League last 16 and Stankovic is wary of the opposition, despite their unconvincing form in the Premier League.
“Liverpool are deceptive as they play simple football and have a very intelligent Coach who doesn’t play in a very English way,” the former Lazio man explained.
“They may not always impress, but everyone knows that they get results in the important games.”

Good. This means Pele will play.
I don't want him on the team. I like J.Zanetti, Cucho and Pele or Stankovic in midifeld....and hopefully Figo will come back soon.
I really think Inter are finally starting to miss him. With Maniche, we really don't need Vieira.
