Coppa: Inter - Reggina-Second Leg-Jan 16,08
Quote:
Mancio Jr to get Inter debut Wednesday 16 January, 2008
Roberto Mancini’s son Filippo is among the Inter players called up for tomorrow’s Coppa Italia tie with Reggina.
The Coach’s teenage son, who was born in 1990 and is a midfielder, received his first official call-up for the senior squad.
It is likely he will only be on the bench alongside his father or watch from the stands of San Siro, although they can afford to relax after winning the first leg 4-1 away from home.
“It is an unusual feeling, but that’s only to be expected,” said the proud Dad. “If I have to ask him to warm up, I’ll call him Filippo rather than Mancini. It’d be weird otherwise!”
January signing Nuno Maniche is not in the side, as his international transfer has not yet come through, but if it does come in before the game then it is possible the former Atletico Madrid man could be given his debut.
“In a match like this, we must always look for extra motivation considering the big win in the first leg. It can be difficult, but it remains an official encounter and we have the opportunity to see some players who haven’t had much space so far,” continued Mancini.
“We have called some youngsters and will start with a fairly regular XI, then see about introducing younger figures during the game.
“We’ll have to wait and see if Maniche’s transfer comes through. If it does, the Portuguese midfielder will play. If not then either Francesco Bolzoni or Luca Siligardi will start.”
Inter squad: Orlandoni, Alfonso; Burdisso, Rivas, Fatic, Filippini; Stankovic, Solari, Pelè, Cesar, Bolzoni, Puccio, Filkor, Pedrelli, Siligardi; F Mancini, Crespo, Balotelli, Napoli.

I had no idea Mancini's son played for the club.
I'll be interesting if he gets a run out.

Tognozzi sees Mission Impossible Thursday 17 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reggina midfielder Luca Tognozzi admits that the Amaranto’s Coppa Italia dream is as good as over as they prepare to face Inter at San Siro.
The lowly Calabrians are huge underdogs to beat Serie A’s runaway leaders on the night, let alone by the three goals needed to force extra-time.
Renzo Ulivieri’s men were undone by teenage hitman Mario Balotelli in the first leg in a 4-1 battering and Tognozzi expects the veteran Coach to shuffle the deck for what seems to be a dead rubber.
“The game at San Siro will only be useful to give some minutes to players who haven’t had much chance,” the Florentine ace admitted.
“The Cup can be used to test out some of those who don’t play that regularly, including me.
“Even a second string Inter side will be tough, but we will try and play well to give the boss a boost, even if qualification seems impossible,” the 30-year-old said.
The winners of the Inter-Reggina clash will go on to face Juventus in the quarter-finals.

Its 2-0 for Inter, and they are playing suprisingly well.
Crespo has one, and there is an OG for Reggina off a nice feed from Balotelli who tried to pass to Crespo.
Balotelli and Pele playing well.
Yes young Mancini is on the bench with pop, I don't see him playing.

It is true. The game was a technicality anyways, this game that is.
Overall alright.
Mancini jr did play, though I didn't see much to make an evaluation about him.

Coppa: Too easy for Inter Thursday 17 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter cruised into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over Reggina to triumph 7-1 on aggregate and set up a tie with Juventus.
The Italian champions came into the game with a 4-1 lead from the first leg in Calabria and the proceedings were always going to be a mere formality.
Nonetheless, a second-string Nerazzurri team dominated from start to finish and ruthlessly secured the win on the night as Renzo Ulivieri also rested a number of first-team players.
The hosts nearly went ahead within 10 minutes when Dejan Stankovic’s ball found Hernan Crespo in the box, but he fired into goalkeeper Nenad Novakovic’s face.
Santiago Solari grazed the post, but young Inter goalkeeper Enrico Alfonso was called into action to make a superb save from Reggina starlet Jonis Khoris.
Inter went ahead on 33 minutes when Crespo’s shot from 25 metres deflected off midfielder Emmanuel Cascione and left Novakovic stranded.
It was a bad day at the office for Cascione as he was the fall-guy on the stroke of half-time when he slid in to cut out Mario Balotelli’s low cross and only succeeded in putting through his own net.
After the interval the rhythm of the game was almost entirely lost as substitutions started to flow.
Roberto Mancini's son Filippo was introduced in place of Balotelli with 10 minutes remaining.
And there was time for the Beneamata to rub salt into the wound with seconds left as he cut into the box, dummied coolly and slotted past Novakovic.
Inter now face Juventus in the quarter-finals as Reggina’s thoughts turn to their crucial relegation battle against Cagliari this weekend.
Inter 3-0 Reggina (7-1 on agg.)
Scorers: Crespo 33, Cascione o.g 43, Cesar 90
Inter: Alfonso; Fatic, Burdisso (Filippini 81), Bolzoni, Rivas, Cesar; Stankovic (Siligardi 46), Pele’, Solari; Crespo (Mancini 81), Balotelli
Reggina: Novakovic; Alvarez, Stadsgaard (Barbera 50), Cherubin (Toscano 79); Khoris, Cascione, Viola, Tognozzi (Szatmari 75), Pettinari, Montiel; Tullberg

Mancio Jnr gives thanks to father Friday 18 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filippo Mancini has thanked his father Roberto for handing him his Inter debut against Reggina at San Siro yesterday evening. “I’ll never forget it.”
The 17-year-old forward was given a place on the bench as the Nerazzurri held a 4-1 lead from their Coppa Italia last 16 first leg in Calabria.
With eight minutes remaining and the Beneamata 2-0 up on the night – a 7-1 aggregate advantage – Filippo’s dream of a senior debut was realised.
“It was very emotional and a day that I will never forget,” the Primavera starlet grinned. “I want to thank my father.
“I also won’t forget all the Coaches I have had over the years from my first at Mary Mount in Rome to Gianluca Andrissi at Inter and the Primavera boss Vincenzo Esposito.
“What did my father say to me when he brought me on? To play it simple and to stay calm.
“Why do I wear the No 17 shirt? I don’t want to be disrespectful to anyone, but it is because my idol Cristiano Ronaldo does,” he concluded.
It was a proud night for father Roberto who admits that bringing his son on was a special experience.
“Was I emotional? Yes, it had an effect on me,” Mancio admitted. "But my son is a young talent just like the others.
“All us big sides have youngsters and so do Reggina so there were quite a few on the pitch.
“People may snub the Coppa Italia, but at least talented youth can play in it.”
