“Olivier Dacourt’s injury is serious and he will be out for the rest of the season. Patrick Vieira is still not recovered. I don’t want to ask for any new signings, but when the Champions League resumes we’ll run into these problems again.”
Torino had given Inter problems in the first half at San Siro, but eventually crumbled to a 4-0 defeat.
“I’d say we had the best chances in the first half and if we had got one in the net it would have been a different game,” noted Granata Coach Walter Novellino.
“We were playing against an extraordinary side, but 4-0 did not reflect the game. We needed to be more attentive in defence, as some of their goals were avoidable. I was about to make a substitution and they scored twice in five minutes – that’s the sign of a champion.”
The deadlock was only broken by a penalty for Gianluca Comotto’s clumsy challenge on Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“It was not a penalty. That’s all there is to say about it. Unfortunately many of our players like David Di Michele, Nicola Ventola and Alvaro Recoba are coming off long-term injuries and are not yet sharp.”
