Javier Zanetti has been with Inter for 12 years and finally gets to celebrate a Scudetto. “I’ve waited so long for this moment.”

The Argentine wore the captain’s armband in the 2-1 win at Siena that mathematically ensured the Nerazzurri’s 15th Italian title.

“I have waited so long for this moment. The whole Inter family deserved to feel this joy,” he told Sky Italia television.

They were not expected to triumph today, but Roma’s defeat in Bergamo gave them an unassailable 16-point lead.

“We were charged up, as after the loss to Roma midweek we really felt the need to prove a point in this game. We deserve this victory and the Scudetto.”

Zanetti was President Massimo Moratti’s first signing when the oil baron took charge in 1995 and stayed on through thick and thin.

“Everyone has earned this joy, from Moratti who made so many sacrifices to our many fans who can finally celebrate. We are deservedly the champions of Italy and will enjoy this moment to the full.”

As a legend of the club, El Tractor dedicated the triumph to some other figures in Inter history who have died in recent years.

“I dedicate this to everyone who loves Inter and to those who are no longer with us, like Giacinto Facchetti, Peppino Prisco and the great Benito Lorenzi.

“On a personal note, I cannot help but thank my wife and my daughter.”

Dejan Stankovic has invited all the supporters to San Siro for next Sunday evening’s match with Empoli.

“I want to thank all the fans who believed along with us that this could come true,” smiled the Inter midfielder.

“Now I expect to see a great party at the Stadio Meazza against Empoli. We can all come together and celebrate this Scudetto.”

The plan for the festivities had originally been on Wednesday, but the 3-1 defeat to Roma put a spanner in the works.

“I suffered a great deal with that result. Perhaps you could tell that my head was not in it, as I wanted to win so much that it clouded my judgment,” confessed the former Lazio star.

“We were much more relaxed today and were able to perform up to our standards. This Scudetto is thoroughly deserved and we proved our strength all year through.”

The 2-1 victory in Siena, along with Roma’s defeat at Atalanta, mathematically secured the 15th title in Inter’s trophy cabinet.

Marco Materazzi was the Scudetto winner with his brace against Siena, crowning an incredible year for the World Cup hero.

“I feel that I am a very lucky person, having been decisive in the World Cup Final and the match that gave Inter the title. For this I want to thank all of my family,” said the defender.

He tapped in the opener and converted a penalty in the 2-1 win at the Stadio Franchi. That result, along with Roma’s defeat to Atalanta, gave the Nerazzurri an unassailable 16-point lead with five games left.

It is technically Inter’s second consecutive Scudetto, as the first was handed to them by the courts after the Calciopoli scandal.

“To win the title on the field was an immense joy. I want to dedicate this victory to everyone who stood by me in the tough times.”

Esteban Cambiasso says he’s delighted to have repaid Inter for their faith in his abilities by helping them win the title.

The Argentine has been a permanent fixture in the Nerazzurri line-up since his Bosman move from Real Madrid in 2004 and he’s been an unsung hero in this season’s title triumph.

“I'm very grateful for the confidence Inter have had in me since my first day here," Cambiasso said after the Nerazzurri made sure of the championship with a 2-1 win at Siena.

“That factor has motivated me to give even more to the team. I'm very happy to be here in this moment.

“This is a victory for the people of Inter, to repay them for the suffering of many years. Today we can express their joy.”

While Inter’s term has been one of the highest standards, the 27-year-old has admitted that he’s had to come through both mental and physical setbacks.

"I remember the week of the first day of the championship in Florence, with my two goals and then the injury that kept me sidelined for over three months,” he added.

“I also recall that it was a terrible week, with the passing of our beloved President Giacinto Facchetti.

"I want to dedicate this title to Facchetti, who has left us, but who has always motivated us greatly since our first day at Inter."

Scudetto winning goalkeeper Julio Cesar insists he’s delighted with how his season has gone between the Inter sticks.

There were some question marks over the Brazilian’s ability prior to the campaign, with rumours suggesting that Inter had failed in a bid to sign Gigi Buffon from Juventus.

However, the South American has ignored his critics to undoubtedly make a positive contribution to the Beneamata cause.

"I work each day to do well and be focused on the pitch,” he stated. “This season I have succeeded in doing what the staff and the fans were expecting from me.”

Although the Nerazzurri were awarded the championship last season by default, the former Flamengo and Chievo No 1 sees this year’s triumph as the real deal.

"It's a very special feeling for me," added the shot-stopper. "It's my first League title and it's even nicer to win it in Italy!

“I would just like to dedicate this victory to my family,” he concluded.

Congratulations Inter on winning the title...deserved. You guys proved to be consistent all year long. The one downfall of Roma. Wish it would of been a closer race, to keep things interesting. But good for Inter...regardless of what people say...you guys won last seasons title on the pitch as well.
