After announcing this would be his last season at Inter, it’s reported Alvaro Recoba has been offered a new deal to stay on.

The Uruguayan has mixed moments of brilliance with long periods of injury and disappointing form during his decade-long Nerazzurri tenure.

Tired of being left on the bench, he confirmed this would be his last term at the San Siro, but there are now suggestions that might have been premature.

Il Chino has received interest from Torino, Palermo and his old Venezia boss Walter Novellino at Sampdoria.

Today it is claimed in the Italian newspapers that Inter President Massimo Moratti has offered Recoba a new contract extension to keep his favourite player at the club.

Agent Paco Casal was spotted entering Moratti’s offices at the Inter headquarters and reports insist he was given a proposal for a contract extension until 2009.

Recoba joined the club in January 1997 and, apart from a six-month spell at Venezia, has worn the Nerazzurri jersey ever since.

This season he has made eight appearances in all competitions, but is yet to score.

Inter striker Alvaro Recoba has confirmed that he wants to leave the San Siro outfit at the end of the season.

El Chino has had few chances to shine this term under boss Roberto Mancini and has again admitted that he is looking for more first team football elsewhere.

“I am disappointed that I was unable to give my contribution to the team this season,” said Recoba, who joined the club in the summer of 1997.

“It will be sad to leave, but I can’t stay here without having the opportunity to regularly play in the starting XI.”

Recoba has always been a favourite of Massimo Moratti and the Uruguayan has promised the owner that he won’t pop up at city rivals Milan in the future.

“Moratti can be sure that I will never move to Milan,” he added after Moratti was left rather bemused with Ronaldo’s decision to join the Rossoneri in January.

“The President will understand that I am going only because I want the chance to play football on a weekly basis.”

Recoba, once one of the highest paid players in world football, has been a massive disappointment over the years.

Despite working under a host of different Coaches at the club, he’s never been able to live up to his enormous potential for any of them.

His best stint in the top flight arguably came during a six-month loan spell at Venezia in 1999 when he scored 10 goals in 19 games.
