One step at a time. He has been qouted as saying that he wants to play for Italy, and I think that will happen when he gets his papers at 18. The first goal is playing for U21, then loaning him out to smaller Serie A club to hone his skills.
I have no doubt this will happen, not unlike they did with Adriano.
Or they are doing with Obinna or the countless other strikers.
I have every faith in his ability to come through, he perfect Italian and he considers himself Italian. So lets hope so.
Though with anything, things can change quickly...but things look good at the moment.

Friendlies: Cruz takes down China Tuesday 17 July, 2007
Julio Cruz scored Inter’s first goal of the season in a 3-0 friendly victory over the Chinese national team.
There was a distinctly South American flavour to the scoresheet, as Argentine Santiago Solari and Brazilian Adriano were also on target.
Roberto Mancini’s men opened their 2007-08 campaign with this comfortable win and shelved the trident experiments to field David Suazo alongside Cruz.
The former Cagliari hitman used his pace to earn the penalty after 33 minutes, which was converted by Cruz.
China called Francesco Toldo into several saves, most notably on Jiang Ning and Shen Longyuan.
After the break Adriano came on and went close with a lob before Solari turned in Mario Balotelli’s cross.
Adriano made his mark by shrugging off a challenge and chipping the goalkeeper.
Around Serie A Livorno saw off amateur side Dimaro 13-0 with Volpe getting a hat-trick.
Torino hit 10 past Malles with Eugenio Corini and Roberto Stellone bagging a brace apiece.
This evening Lazio will take on Stuttgart.

The Solari goal is here.....with Mario setting him up nicely and calmly.

I think it's pure crap that he can't be capped for Italy, considering that he born and raised there

He can be capped, after he becomes a full fledged Italian citizen, that will happen after he gets his papers at eighteen. Starting with his passport.
As for it being crap, its our law and rules, I think its great, and people have to become citizens themselves, as opposed to poeple just having babies in the country to have citzenship.
Mario from what I hear, is Italian or he thinks of himself as Italian, and he will become one in a few years, God willing.

Inter Milan whiz Balotelli chooses Italy over Ghana
tribalfootball.com - November 18, 2007
Inter Milan superkid Mario Balotelli has ruled out committing his international future to Ghana.
Balotelli, 16, was born in Ghana before being raised in Italy and declared: "There's no question to answer. Italy is No1 for me, always has been. I do not feel Ghanaian. I want the Azzurri jersey."

There should not be any question.

Will they let them what? Its very simple really, if he gets his proper papers when he turns eighteen I believe, he can do anything any other Italian can.
Regardless if he is black or not of proper Italian blood. He is born in Italy, he can now play for the azzurri. And I think this is going to be great.
I predict he will be two seasons away from playing for Inter, if Mancini is still coach.
First step first, is playing for the U19. then U21.

He was born in Ghana, that's the issue.
All that matters is that he's lived long enough in Italy to gain citizenship.

No, he was born in Italy.

Mario Balotelli Barwuah[1][2] (born August 12, 1990 in Palermo) is a football (soccer) striker currently part of F.C. Internazionale Milano.[3]

However even if your born in Italy, doesn't mean your a citizen. Italy carries over many laws, even from the Roman days.
He has to apply for it, and he will get it with no problems.
The flip side, if Italians have a child and that child is born outside of Italy, he/she will still be considered an Italian citizen. That is how it goes.

I was going by that comment.
Anyway, he'll need to wait until he's 18 before he gains his citizenship.

However he was born in Italy, and has adopted Italian parents, living in Brescia.
Mario Balotelli Barwuah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
So yes, he is not true Italian, but at least he IS born Italy.
As for his professional career, apperently he has moved to the primavera team, and has outpeformed the young Portugese phenom we have in our youth system,
he is 1.90 meters x 85 kgs
It means Barwuah is 6ft 4, 188 Pounds !! At 17!
|
More like 6' 2 and half like the link says. I know because I am the same.
I was 1.87 at age 17.
Now I am probably 1.89 - 1.90 myself and staying that way for good.
