Javier Zanetti "Il Capitano" >>The Living Legend
In the twilight of his career I thought I would start the J.Zanetti thread and how much he means to Inter.
One of the greatest fullback to ever play, on par with Carlos Alberto of Brazil.
I take for granted on how many times I have seen him do this.
His dribbling is just sublime.

If anything he's probably one of the most underrated players in Italy, if not in all of Europe. Even now when he's playing most of his games in the centre of midfield you can't fault him.
And just think, he was Moratti's first ever signing and he's still at the club.

Very few players are professional off the pitch and on it like Il Capitano.
My only sadness is that he is so loyal to the club, that we had some really crap seasons back then.
I hope he plays for a number of years. Its amazing but I don't he has lost a step, he still seems to be able to bust through players like their standing still.
Little "pepper pot" I like to call him.

Zanetti would like to remain with Inter even after he retires.

I don't see why he wouldn't do well as a coach, I could definitely see him fulfilling that role well.
Either way I'll be surprised if he leaves Inter all together, I'm sure the club will give him something to do.

This idea was proposed by a group of fans apparently. I'm not sure I would want this or like this, as I would be afraid he would be a failure and leave the city in disgrace.
I think a front office job would be better to be honest. He is fluent in Italian, there is no limit what he can or can not do.

I just read a very nice qoute by Coach Roberto Mancini saying that J.Zanetti can play any where, and that he has been awesome in midfield. Something I completely agree with.
Quote:
“I think that Zanetti, who started off as a midfielder, has been exceptional in the middle of the pitch this season,” noted the tactician.
“And with his ability and versatility, he can play in any role.
“For 30-35 matches everyone thought Zanetti was extraordinary in midfield. After the 0-0 draw at Valencia I read that someone said we couldn't play with defenders in midfield.
“The fact remains that the midfield is playing very well.
“There are 50m Coaches in Italy and those who pass judgement the day after can say all sorts of things, but this always happens and always has happened."

Yep, he's absolutely right.
It just goes to show what a quality player he is with the right attitude.

Meanwhile, the versatile player confirmed that he believes he will end his career wearing the Nerazzurri shirt.
“I think my playing days will conclude here as my contract expires in 2010,” explained the 33-year-old.

Quote:
Barcelona coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer has Inter Milan forward Javier Zanetti "Saverio" at the top of his wanted list for next season.
The Argentinian spoke to Spanish Sports Daily, Marca on Tuesday about his feelings regarding the interest from the Catalans.
"I have heard on the grapevine that Barca intend to sign me but as of the moment, they havenÔt been in contact with me personally," said Zanetti.
"I've also been told that Real Madrid are interested, but as I say, they are just rumours for the time being."
"Barcelona have got some top quality players and they are one of the most prestigious teams in the world, ItÕs an honour for me to know that someone like Barcelona is asking about my situation but I would like to make it clear that I feel comfortable at Inter Milan."
Zanetti explained that he was waiting to hear from his bosses at Inter to find out whether he will figure in the plans for the new season. The Inter star is aware that Serra Ferrer is chasing him to join Barca and relished the prospect of playing alongside some of the clubÕs star players.
"It would be a privilege to play together with somebody like Luis Figo, who is a
player that I have a lot of admiration for," he added.

It's silly, just silly.
Inter won't sell, JZ won't want to leave.
