Maicon - the next Cafu
Maicon has been hailed as the next Cafu and based on his performances this season it's hard to disagree. He's definitely been one the signings of the season.

Maicon has looked great and he has a great future ahead of him. Always a major compliment being compared to Cafu!

In some ways he's better than Cafu because he's so big and strong, he's an absolute beast.

Facing Quaresma isn't easy though

Ricardo Quaresma: forever a Porto legend. Thank you for all the memories.

He most definitely is, in my opinion he will be better.
Very good on the ball, can pass, he can run, and he is playing smarter, though Italian coaching will do that.

He needs to improve in some defensive areas but with people like JZ at the club I can't see that being a problem.

I think most Brazilians do....
Cafu is still learning.

True, but I think he has an advantage over Cafu because of his build.
Wasn't Maicon a free transfer as well? As far as value for money goes he has to be the signing of the season so far.

I can't remember, though I do recall that Maicon and Maxwell were cheap and had for next to nothing.
Maxwell was left as damaged goods and was consensus was that he would not be the same player.

I just checked, he was £4m. Not bad to be honest.
You're right about Maxwell though, he was free.

That is a giveaway price Joel. Damn that was a good deal.
And too his defensive capabilities, I'm not too concerned. Maicon was brought in to supply the middle, hence the reason we dress Cucho and Vieira, but we addressed this already in many threads, and you know this.
As for being shit with Brazil, if Ronny and Kaka and Adriano and Ronaldo can be shit, then so can he.
Brazil will not win anything again, until they get rid of some people who are along for just the "ride" if you know what I mean. No work ethic...but that is for another thread.
Maicon needs to continue his development, and he will in Italy.

He's only 25 as well and he has 3 assists in Serie A this season already.

I've been very impressed with Maicon this season. The next Cafu? Perhaps.
