MD25:Inter v Juventus
Quote:
Juventus travel to the San Siro this week in a game that could determine the outcome of the championship. A victory for Juve and the Scudetto is over, but a win for Inter will not just be cheered on the terraces of the Giuseppe Meazza but also from their city rivals and down in Florence.
Juve's form in the last couple of weeks has been very shaky after the Parma draw and their struggles in the 1-0 win over Udinese.

If Juve win this then they'll almost certainly go on to win the league, a loss would make the title race a little more interesting though. Neither team have been playing that well recently so it's hard to predict how this one will go.

Mancio crowns rivals Juve
Quote:
Roberto Mancini insists it will be impossible to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto even if Inter win the crunch game between them on Sunday.
The Nerazzurri have the opportunity to cut Juve’s lead to six points at the weekend, but boss Mancini insists the Bianconeri are in pole position to retain their title.
“It won’t matter if we win against Juve and close the gap, it will be impossible to re-open the title race,” said Mancio.
“Even if we play to our very best over the next few games it will too hard.”
Asked which two Juve stars he would prefer not to be playing, the Sampdoria legend sighed and claimed that even with half a team they would still not be easy to beat.
“Juventus are a great club and have many experienced top class players. It would be hard to pick out their two best as they are all excellent,” he continued.
“Emerson is an extraordinary player, but so are Patrick Vieira, Mauro Camoranesi and the rest.”
However, Mancini did warn his defenders to be on guard against the Turin side’s strike force, a partnership which he fears.
“For me, David Trezeguet and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are the two that really make the difference,” revealed the ex-Lazio boss.
The ‘Derby d’Italia’, as it is known in the peninsula, is set to be a heated affair and Mancini has no desire to share the points, even if that may prove difficult.
“It will be a hard game on Sunday whoever plays but we will still be looking to win, get back to our strengths and consolidate our second place,” he continued.
“Our position is still the same and we must not let Wednesday’s defeat upset us as we still played good football.”
The Milan giants, who fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Stadio Delle Alpi in October, lost 2-1 at Fiorentina in midweek.

Most Juventini are expecting to lose this match. So not much optimism there, I think we can do it with a top performance from a few of our key players and certainly a key factor of the game - dependant on who does the job in Zambro's void.

Not sure what to expect here. However, I think Inter will be motivated, and they will put on the pressure I imagine.

A draw here would be perfect, it will keep the distance and cool down inter's desires for the scudetto. Inter may be motivated but they are facing not some seria B team but the strongest defence in italy.
But we've seen many derbies like that and pretty much ANYTHING could happen from 3-0 to 0-3

Exactly Grim, but I don't think that's the nature of the game - but Juventus' form when it comes to facing the very top sides, under Capello it's been better but in seasons past; we can go from 10 games unbeaten to facing the likes of Inter or Milan and getting our arses handed to us. It's very much a pyschological problem and I think it comes with the immense pressure to win these 'big' games.
We are still favourites though and I will be the first to admit that I will be very disappointed if we don't take 3pts - everyone says the title race is now non-existent, Juve can prove this on Sunday..or choke and go on to win the title with people waving in our face this result (given we fail to take anything from the Meazza) and possibly our home tie with the Rossoneri.

as long as I remember for 2 seasons we've only lost to milan 3-1, every other derby was a win or a tie. Inter are the ones that have to win by all means to save their hopes

Yes, exactly - under Capello. Chase back to Lippi's final spell at the helm, you'd be surprised at how poor we've been in the big games.
The reason I highlight this now, is down to the fact although we've had results with the Don - I still feel our performances in these games have been lacking in comparison to great football we've been playing in other games this season and last.

Well, you are in the league lead. Its natural that Inter or Milan save their best games for you at home. Its always been that way, it will always be that way.

Juve will win 2-1 imo...will do just as Chelsea did to Liverpool, but Inter have a better attack and can actually get on the score sheet.

That too I suppose..but wouldn't you think that feeling would be mutual coming into games of this stature?
