MD9:Inter vs Roma

After beating Udinese at home, Inter will look to the San Siro, where they host Roma, which hopes to be an entertaining match.

Quote:
It is a confident Inter that will play host to a Roma side under increasing pressure on Wednesday night at the San Siro. Few can be feeling the strain as much as Coach Luciano Spalletti, as the combination of a poor League position and the on-going Antonio Cassano fiasco sees him as one of the favourites to be the next Serie A tactician to join the dole queue.

The 1-1 draw in the weekend’s Rome derby and some good UEFA Cup performances have kept him safe up to now. But unless his side start to climb the table, it could only be a matter of time before he is axed – especially with the Giallorossi’s recent record for getting through Coaches.

But it won’t be easy to start that climb in Milan as Inter have won all four of their matches at the San Siro this season. The Nerazzurri are currently in third place and with their defence seeming to have settled, they don’t look like letting up on their good form. One of those defenders will be hoping for an especially good game against his old club. Walter Samuel made his name as one of the world’s best centre-backs with the Giallorossi and will be keen to remind his former teammates why.

Samuel’s task will be made easier by Cassano’s continued absence and Roma will also be missing the injured Alberto Aquilani and Luigi Sartor, but Leandro Cufrè is available again. Inter’s problems are more serious as captain Javier Zanetti is still suffering from his injury along with Dejan Stankovic and Kily Gonzalez. Adriano is also a doubt because of his shoulder problem, although Marco Materazzi and Cristiano Zanetti are both now back to full fitness.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; Cordoba, Materazzi, Samuel, Wome; Ze Maria, Cambiasso, Veron, Figo; Cruz, Martins

Roma (probable): Doni; Panucci, Kuffour, Chivu, Cufrè; Perrotta, De Rossi; Mancini, Totti, Taddei; Montella

I hate facing roma. No matter how bad they are playing, I always get worried that they are gonna pull one out of their ass

We are playing at home, we do have the advantage. The only wish I would have is that we could have a week to prepare for them, but a few days will have to do.

J.Zanetti is not ready, I wonder if Mancini will bring back Favalli and rest either Matrix or Samuel? At this stage, I can't see it happening.

Playing 2 strikers won't solve your problem. Roma needs a hell of a game in mid field and defence. It's still a good idea though, because they'll need to score

it might help, the way we're playing now might as well not bother with a striker, they're just isolated upfront. I have confidence in our defence (if chivu stays awake) but Inter's midfeild will be all over whoever plays for us.

This is a important game for Inter and Roma.Inter need the points not to get left behind and show that they have a serious team.
And Roma need the points to start climbing the table.

Roma are never easy, and we just don't know what team is going to show up. Totti is superstar, and if plays his best, we will have our hands full.

Samuel faces his past Tuesday 25 October, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter’s Walter Samuel has conceded that he won’t celebrate if he scores against former club Roma on Wednesday.

The stopper made his name in Europe with the capital side before moves to Real Madrid and then Internazionale.

"I don’t think I would celebrate if I hit the back of the net," the Argentine told Sky Italia. "That’s because I still have many friends there who wouldn’t be too pleased with such a gesture."

The central defender spent four years in the capital, even winning Lo Scudetto with the then formidable Giallorossi.

However, he’s now a key figure at the San Siro as he tries to replicate that sort of success with the sleeping giants.

Inter are currently third in the table, six points adrift of Juve, and the player has underlined that his side still need to improve.

"We have to pay attention to details," noted Samuel. "It is vital that we stay alert at all times.

"We made two mistakes in Turin against Juventus, one by me, and that cost us as we went on to lose the game 2-0.

"But this side has character and that is evident in training seeing as nobody wants to even lose a practice game."

The Nerazzurri are set to be without star striker Adriano though, as he is expected to take around 10 days to recover from a shoulder injury.

yup he taught cufre the art of never letting anybody go without giving him a little pain first sucks we have to face him. felt wierd when i saw delvecchio with a parma jersey and it felt wierd when i saw samuel in a inter jersey. either way its just business so lets get a point if not a win. last year we drew 3-3 one heck of a match. lets hope spalleti can motivate the boys. wouldnt mind to see a couple of youth team players come in the second half if mancini craps out on us again ( prefferably CERCI!!!!) this game is on CCTV5 for those not in europe and cant watch it on cable. adriano isnt playing so the beast wont be scoring. we just have to contain martins. kuffour is to slow in my opinion. mexes to play?? probably not but he looked good when he played. and PLEASE put curci back in net spalleti.
