There could be many reason why he was crap at Real, and one of the best in Italy.

From not adjusting to life in Spain,(unlikely) or not getting along with all the ego maniacs on the club. Lets face it, Real is still not learning from their mistakes.

I'm positive that Samuel can return to his former self.

Samuel started horrible in the first part of the season. He was too slow for La Liga and too nervous. In the second part of the season, he played well and approved. He was not a giant defender, but he played good in many matches. Real Madrid did an impressiv season in La Liga last season with Samuel, but only three stupid defeats in the first part destroyed La Liga victory.

I think La Liga was too fast for Walter Samuel, and I think he wanted to go back to Serie A. Samuel never played, like he did for Roma, in Madrid. And its many examples that espesially Italians and players who have played well in Serie A dont become great in Spain, and the other way around.

If Samuel wanted to go back, I think this was a wish both for Samuel and Real Madrid. There is not conflict around the transfer. The transfers of Baptista and Robinho also gave him not space because of Non-Eu.

Its about 10 better defenders out there who can replace Samuel and do a better job in La Liga and for Madrid, and I hope they sign in a replacer for him. If not, I'll NOT like the situation. However, Madrid have a good defense now.

Quote:
WALTER SAMUEL ON ADRIANO
Tuesday, 02 August 2005 18:12:39
APPIANO GENTILE - New signing Walter Adriano Samuel answered questions from the press before his first training session as an Inter player - an athletic workout with fitness trainer Giannicola Bisciotti.

They said you didn't want to leave Madrid defeated. What made you change idea?
"Yes, it's true that at the end of last season I said I wanted another go with Real, but then I thought it was right to change because there was a team - Inter - that was very interested in me and that could offer me the chance for revenge. I have no complaints to make about Real, but I'm at Inter now and my thoughts are only for Inter."

You only left Italy a year ago. Did you think you'd be back here so soon?
"I honestly didn't think I would be, but it has happened and I'm not complaining. It was my decision to come to Inter and I'm very happy about it."

Was your decision to come to Milan influenced by the opinions of your many Argentine compatriots?
"Perhaps. It's clear that my national teammates talked about Inter a lot during the Confederations Cup. I was already very interested in coming to Milan, but I couldn't say much. These were just comments between teammates because I didn't know at what stage negotiations were."

Having seen Adriano's goal in the Confederations Cup you must have thought that it's better to have him as a teammate...
"Yes, definitely. Adriano is one of the best centre-forwards in the world at the moment, so I'm lucky to have him in my team. I hope his goals help us win something."

Who are the most fearsome rival for the Scudetto? Capello's Juventus or Ancelotti's Milan?
"I'm just thinking about Inter, about my team, and nothing else. It's always the best teams that contest the Scudetto. The most important thing is to start off well so we can focus on both the championship and the Champions League. And on a personal level I want to get in form as soon as possible."

Yes, I hope he scares Ibra and Sheva also.

Samuel is great and I think he was the most important target for Inter this year, beacause he strengthens the defense ( Goodbye Materazzi)
It is hard to say that there are 10 better defenders in the world to replace Samuel at Real Madrid,Mr. PENNYWISE considering the "10 better players" are probably not for sale and are cherished by their teams. But I agree that Real Madrid has a pretty good defense but they need to add or they are going to embarass themselves.

>> Walter Samuel didn't fit in, in Real Madrid and La Liga. There are ten, or perhaps more, defenders who had done a greater job that him for Real Madrid in La Liga. Real Madrid have money and opportunities to bring in about 6-7 of this players. Remember, I don't say that Samuel is bad, but there are plenty of players who can perform/fit in better in La Liga. La Liga were too fast for him.

I think Real Madrid doesn't suit Samuel, since Real don't think about defense. Samuel is better suited in a system that thinks defense first.

In regards to ten better defenders, if that was the case, they would have done something about it, if it was that simple.

When I first heard of this rumour, I was skeptical. Now that it has come true, I'm extremely happy, and content our team is taking shape.

Jonathan Woodgate and Carlos Diogo will replace Samuel now. I think both of them will fit better in, in La Liga than Samuel. And perhaps a new defender is just around the corner.

Samuel was a great sign for Inter. Hope he will perform like he did for AS Roma.

Its going to take awhile, however I feel Samuel will take off, where he left off in Serie A.

Samuel wants shirt back Wednesday 25 July, 2007

Argentine defender Walter Samuel is ready to fight for his place at Inter and can’t wait for the new season to begin.

The 29-year-old stopper known as ‘The Wall’ in his homeland made only 18 appearances in the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto triumph due to a series of injuries.

The emergence of Marco Materazzi as the Beneamata’s rock in the heart of defence has left the ex-Roma man competing for just one place.

Fellow countryman Nicolas Burdisso enjoyed an excellent campaign and highly-rated Colombian defender Nelson Rivas has arrived from River Plate, but Samuel insists he can regain his shirt.

“I’m very motivated because last term I had a couple of injuries which were not serious but stopped me from playing for long periods,” he told Sky Italia.

“Now I’m trying to regain full fitness so that I can find my best form and claim back my place in the side.”

I think he will actually, he will make things much harder for Mancio, in terms of who to play.

Default Samuel: We Want Success At Home And Abroad

Inter defender Walter Samuel has set his sights on winning both the Scudetto and the Champions League this year.

The Argentine stopper, nicknamed ‘The Wall’, was part of Inter’s Scudetto-winning squad last season, and with the Nerazzurri unbeaten and top of the league this campaign, things are looking good for a repeat triumph.

"With the squad we have, we can clearly think about winning both,” said Samuel.

“After winning the Scudetto last year, after the party and the joy we felt with our fans, we're all thinking about trying to do the same, so we will try to win the Scudetto and do well in the Champions League."

The 29-year-old also commented on his omission from the latest Argentina national squad and admitted he was disappointed not be selected.

"It's like this and I'm disappointed because I have played in the national team for many years and it's very important for me,” explained the ex-Roma man.

“If I weren't in form I'd be the first to back down, but I'm feeling in great form so I'm disappointed about not being there, and Crespo, Cruz and Solari feel the same way.

“I hope to get back in the national team soon thanks to the positive things done with Inter."

Walter Samuel insists that fitness is the primary reason behind his sensational return to form for Italian champions Inter this season.

The Argentine has seemingly got back to his old self after a problematic 2006-07 campaign and he is under no illusions as to why.

“I wasn’t very lucky last season,” he noted. “I suffered two serious muscle injuries and that had never really happened to me before. But I’m fine now and I think the results are showing.”

Samuel, who has been handed a regular chance at the back due to the Nerazzurri’s defensive injury crisis, isn’t totally satisfied with the first few months of the campaign though.

Even if ‘The Wall’ has been solid and impressive for the Nerazzurri, it has not been enough for him to win an international recall.

“This is the situation and I’m disappointed,” he admitted. “I have played in the national team for many years and it's very important for me.

“If I weren't in form I'd be the first to back down, but I'm feeling in great shape so I'm disappointed about not being there. Hernan Crespo, Julio Cruz and Santiago Solari feel the same way.

“I hope to get back into the national team soon thanks to the positive things done with Inter."

So what’s on the agenda for the club this term – the Champions League or another Scudetto success?

“We can clearly think about winning both with the squad we have,” added the former Boca, Roma and Real Madrid man.

“After lifting the Scudetto last time out, we're all thinking about trying to do the same so we will aim to win the title and do well in the Champions League."
