its nice for portuguese to learn the english language at early age in school
Real Madrid winger Luis Figo has denied any rivalry between him and newcomer David Beckham, suggesting on Monday he was willing to switch to the left flank so the English midfielder can play on the right.
Since Beckham started to train with Real four days ago at a facility in southwestern China, foreign and Chinese media have often asked whether he and Figo would become comrades or adversaries.
On the field, they have played the same spot at right wing. Off it, Figo is one of few players at the star-studded club with good enough English to converse at length with Beckham, who is just learning Spanish.
Asked about media speculation of a rivalry, the Portuguese international told reporters, "I think it does not exist because we are on the same team so we (have) the same objective, no?"
He said Beckham was beginning to feel "at home" at Real after the England captain's 35 million euro ($40.13 million) transfer from Manchester United earlier this month.
"I think everyone is trying to be as nice as possible for Beckham to feel adapted as soon as possible to a new life and a new club," said Figo.
"Maybe because I speak a little more English I talk a little more with him but I think all the players try to (help) Beckham adapt."
The question of a line-up conflict also seems to be settling itself under new manager Carlos Queiroz, who coached Beckham as assistant to Alex Ferguson at United and Figo as skipper of the Portuguese youth side.
During training sessions in Kunming, Figo, considered more versatile than Beckham, has already spent the majority of his time at the left flank. It is a position he played under Queiroz and at Sporting Lisbon.
But Figo did not answer directly when asked if the switch had been made. "During my career, I have had to adapt myself to different positions depending on the trainer and coach," he said. "I will play where my trainer thinks it's convenient."

Yeh the owner can destroy a team, if they dont let a manager do there job. Querioz is a good manager.

Figo Dreams Of Playing For Man United
Luis Figo has revealed he has always dreamed of pulling on the red shirt of Manchester United.
The Real Madrid winger has been linked with the reigning Premiership champions in the past, and most notably last summer.
Reports suggested that the Portuguese international would move to Old Trafford as part of David Beckham's transfer in the opposite direction to El Santiago Bernabeu.
The swap deal never materialised, and Beckham and Figo are now playing side by side in Real's star-studded first team.
However, the former Sporting Lisbon star has now admitted he has always been attracted by the prospect of playing for United, but concedes his situation makes the chances of a switch to England unlikely.
"(Playing for Manchester United) was always a dream of mine since I was young, but that does not mean it's going to become a reality," the 30-year-old told Portuguese magazine Doze.
"I think that current circumstances make it a dream that is extremely difficult to make happen.
"I have three more years of my contract with Real Madrid and my future lies here.
"I feel very good in Madrid, but as a popular saying goes: the future is in the hands of the Gods."
Figo's revelation is sure to excite Manchester United fans, but with Ferguson having opted to invest in the player's young compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo as Beckham's long-term replacement it seems unlikely that the ex-Barca star will ever grace Old Trafford.

It would only make sense, since he has no hope of ever playing in Italy. He'll want to play on a CL contender, and after Spain, England is his only option....if he's sincere or not.
Honestly, I don't think you want him on United. From what I've heard, he's a troublemaker. You can do better than him at this stage.
