You shouldn't feel "gutted". If they would of won, they would of used the same tactic yet again if they had the lead against superior opposition, and it wouldn't of worked.
There has to be a balance, you just can't not attack any more, and give up that much of the ball.
You have to slow the game down, but you still have to push up. Hence the reason good managers would usually put on a ball winner like Del Piero under Capello or Mancini and countless other managers would use Figo to keep the ball.
So in essence, the best defense is too keep the ball.
