Terrible effort at a comeback.

Hargreaves has English heritage. Completely different.

I have to say i think it is portugal year to shine. I know some people may not like the team set up but i think portugal has a strong team this year. And hopfully we can win Euro with the players we have. I would love to see a italy and portugal final game. That would be the best

Now now....Brazilians are originally from Portugal am I right? If we're going by that logic they are allowed to play for Portugal if you look far enough down the family tree .

I have to agree with MFR.Portugal have been knocking on the door for a while.I think its their time. With a bit of luck*like all champions need* they can go all the way.You folks play positive attractive football. Its time you guys win a trophy already.

Nah, we play shit and defensive football (against big teams). But since we don't have a solid goalkeeper, we'll concede goals and since we don't have a good striker we won't score on the counterattacks = FAILURE.

No Figo and no Rui Costa. I don't trust Ronaldo to lead this team tbh.. The Rule was right when he said that Ronaldo choked on the last 2 tournaments and he has been far from impressive for the NT, the likes of Nani and Quaresma have played better lately.

Exactly. People are expecting too much from Cristiano Ronaldo, judging his excellent season with Man United. As I previously said, Ronaldo is a different player for Portugal.

He will be holding the captain armband, right?

He is one of the 5 captains (yeah thats right, Scolari named 5 captains.........), but the number 1 is Nuno Gomes. Second is Carvalho I think, then Ronaldo.

Five captains? What the fuck?!

No.1 Nuno Gomes? Bad decision, imo. He shouldn't be a starter, at all.

Carvalho deserves to hold it more than anyone else. C.Ronaldo just doesn't have what it takes to be a captain.

lol yeah.. Scolari methods, don't try to understand.

Scolari loves Nuno Gomes so he'll start. Nuno will be the head of our attack, Ronaldo and Quaresma/Simao on the wings, Deco in mid.

Carvalho isn't vocal enough though and doesn't impose himself. He is rather quite on the field. Ronaldo being captain of Portugal in the qualifiers was a completely disgrace.

Agreed.

IMO, the season Ronaldo has just had is the worst thing that could have happened to him from an international point of view. And here's why.

Everyone is going to be expecting him to be the player of the tournament. EVERYONE. From fans, to his team-mates, to the opposition. Portugal have had a history of relying too much on a form player. Figo or Rui Costa for the best part of a decade, and now Ronaldo. If Ronaldo had just finished an average season for United he's be coming in under far less pressure. He could have kept a low profile and hoped teams keyed their defenses to cope with Queresma and Simao and Deco, which would have allowed him to fly under the radar and possibly cause devastation.

Ronaldo performs brilliantly when the pressure is off and he can use his tricks and find space and get his shots in. But when the pressure his on, his track record speaks for itself, very poor.

As for the five captain thing, that's ridiculous. Ollie, who are the other 4 captains along with Ronaldo?

Owen Hargreaves has an english parent, not sure which one. It's hardly the same as having a great great great great great great great grandparent.

And not all Brazilians are originally from Portugal. Do you think that massive country was just sitting vacant before the Portuguese discovered it?
