I dont rate Panucci at cb. Matrix brought over his serie a form in the game vs Holland. Barzagli was poor as well, but he wont get beat for pace as easily as Matrix.

In midfield, just as long as its balanced, I dont care who play's. Pirlo, a defensive mid (De Rossi, Ambrosini, Gattuso) and some1 dynamic who can chip in at more than 1 area of the pitch (Camo, Aquilani, Perrotta).

More credit goes to Chiellini for that. Any1 in Panucci's position would have scored.

Tbh, I dont really care since Im not a fan of Barzagli either. As I said, lesser of the evils. If Gamberini was more match fit, he should be next in line, but I'm stuck picking from 3 players who I dont rate.

I dont think it will decide the game either way. The midfield is the game breaker, and if Donadoni fucks up the balance, its going to be a tough 90 minutes.

Tonight’s crunch match between Italy and France could result in a grim penalty shoot-out to resolve third place.

The two World Cup finalists square off tonight knowing that anything less than a win will almost certainly lead to an early flight home.

But they could be handed a further indignity if Romania beat Holland and their game finishes level.

In this situation, France and Italy would be tied for third with identical records and would be forced to take penalties to decide who finishes fourth, even though both sides would still be eliminated.

This is the first year that teams have been required to undergo this formality and it would serve to decide which team takes more co-efficient points, which are used for seeding future tournaments.

Roberto Donadoni experimented at length with a surprising line-up in a morning training session ahead of Italy’s final Group C game against France.

Two contrasting Azzurri sides have disappointed in Austria and the nation’s media have been left to speculate over how Donadoni will try to turn things around tonight.

In this morning’s training session, which started with warm-ups in the hotel due to the heavy rain, Donadoni split the group into two for a mini-game and seemed to toy with some unexpected selections.

In a 4-3-1-2 formation, the defence of Gianluca Zambrotta, Christian Panucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Fabio Grosso was kept intact.

But Gennaro Gattuso, Alberto Aquilani and Massimo Ambrosini played across the middle and Antonio Cassano, Antonio Di Natale and Marco Borriello formed the attack.
While this is likely to be a false indication of Don’s intentions, there have been widespread rumours that Andrea Pirlo could be dropped and sources watching the session suggested that Luca Toni looked tired.

Ambrosini, who started the opener against Holland, is certainly hoping to play from the first whistle.

“I feel good,” he insisted. “I really want to play and I just want to get the chance.

“Physically and mentally I’m in good condition – tension is just normal.”

Meanwhile injured captain Fabio Cannavaro can only watch, but he seems confident.

“The team is calm,” the Real Madrid stopper said.

“We know that we have to win at all costs without thinking about anything else.

“The objective is just to beat a strong squad – they are in the same position and it won’t be easy.”

I doubt that's what he'll play, but you never know with Donadoni.

His decision making has been very poor so far this tournament.

Panucci deserves to play...France don't have the pace as other teams and Panucci is aways in position.

Let's not forget that MD1...Panucci was not fit bc of the injury in training. Barzaghi is always out of position. I would start Panucci and Chiellini.
