Piturca has announced 27 names, from which he will then have to axe four from the squad that flies out to Austria and Switzerland.

Fifteen of the players are home-based, with four from Serie A, including star men Adrian Mutu and Christian Chivu.

Romania will play Montenegro in a friendly on May 22 before making the trip to Switzerland on June 2 for Euro 2008, which will take place from June 7 – 29.

The Tricolorii have been drawn in the so-called Group of Death, alongside France, Italy and Holland.

Romania Name Bratu-Less Euros Squad

Romania boss Victor Piturca has announced his final 23-man squad for Euro 2008...

FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti striker Florin Bratu is the unlucky player who has missed out on Romania's Austria and Switzerland adventure.

Coach Piturca named just 24 men for his training camp and, with only one to cut, has dropped 28-year-old Bratu ahead of next month's showpiece.

Romania, drawn in the 'group of death' with France, Italy and The Netherlands, will now focus on Saturday's friendly against Montenegro in Bucharest.

Bratu's teammates Adrian Cristea and Cosmin Moti are in the squad, with hitman Marius Niculae of Scottish outfit Inverness Caley Thistle also retaining his place.

Romania Squad:

Goalkeepers:
Bogdan Lobonţ (FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti),
Marius Popa (FC Politehnica 1921 Ştiinţa Timişoara),
Eduard Stancioiu (CFR 1907 Cluj).

Defenders:
Cosmin Contra (Getafe CF),
Răzvan Raţ (FC Shakhtar Donetsk),
Gabriel Tamaş (AJ Auxerre),
Cristian Chivu (Internazionale Milano FC),
Cristian Sapunaru (FC Rapid Bucureşti),
Sorin Ghionea (FC Steaua Bucureşti),
Dorin Goian (FC Steaua Bucureşti),
Cosmin Moti (FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti),
Ştefan Radu (S.S. Lazio).

Midfielders:
Mirel Rădoi (FC Steaua Bucureşti),
Florentin Petre (PFC CSKA Sofia),
Paul Codrea (AC Siena),
Răzvan Cociş (FC Lokomotiv Moscow),
Bănel Nicoliţă (FC Steaua Bucureşti),
Adrian Cristea (FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti),
Nicolae Dică (FC Steaua Bucureşti).

Forwards:
Ciprian Marica (VfB Stuttgart),
Adrian Mutu (ACF Fiorentina),
Marius Niculae (Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC),
Daniel Niculae (AJ Auxerre).

Goian Fit For France Clash

Romanian defender Dorin Goian is expected to be fit for his country’s EURO opener against France on Monday…

The centre-half sustained an ankle injury during training, and was thus forced to sit out the Tricolorii’s 4-0 friendly win against Montenegro on Saturday.

It was initially feared the Steaua Bucharest man would miss the clash with Les Bleus, but reports indicate the 27-year-old has recovered and is expected to feature in Zurich.

This news will come as a relief to Romania, who will need to be at their peak if they wish to make the knockout stages.

Victor Piturca’s men have been pooled in Group C alongside Italy and the Netherlands, meaning they must secure results against three of the tournament’s favourites to progress.

Romania Will Qualify From The Group Of Death - Piturca

Romania coach Victor Piturca is backing his side to do the near impossible and qualify from Euro 2008's Group of Death, which includes World Cup winners Italy, runners-up France and the Netherlands...

To their credit, Romania impressed in finishing top of their qualification group ahead of the Netherlands and looked extremely solid while doing so.

However, repeating the feat against an Oranje side which, though still susceptible at the back, looks to be finding its feet - not to mention arch-rivals Italy and France - seems beyond all reasonable and logical possibility.

"It has been a fantastic common goal to qualify," he began. "The boys have been highly motivated and concentrated in each match.

"Today's team is very good, but most important of all they form a very united group."

When asked if they could qualify, he replied without a hint of hesitation: "Yes, we can. If the players are healthy and at a high physical and psychological level, they can achieve a lot.

"We can reach the final, even win it, but we could also lose all our matches. At this level everything can happen.

"Of course, we remember what Greece did four years ago. They weren't given much chance in Portugal (in Euro 2004), but still won the tournament.

"Like every coach, I dream of going as far as possible."

Romania play their first game against France on Monday evening.
