I hope this forum, and talksoccer in general become a beacon for all the fans of International competitions. I was even toying with the idea of a Euro area, but one thing at a time. I just know Italians and fans of the Azzurri, like talking about their team 12 months fo the year. So I think this forum will get used.

And I hope people start informative discussions in here....after the first game, I'm sure people will want to discuss things, as everybody in Europe will see the tournament.

I find Italian football boring and too defensive. There was only one era when I truly enjoyed watching Serie A and that was when Milan had the three great Dutchman, Van Basten, Riikaard and Guliitt. For a country that has produced so many great players I find it hard understand this defensive mentality.

Whether I watch the Italian national team or a top club side there is always by and large a defensive element that just makes me want to fall to sleep. Different cultures do things differently but Italian football frustrates me because if they played with a more attcaking edge they could be as good as anyone. Enzo Bearzot proved this in 1982 but subsequent national managers still play this defensive counter attacking style which is nil entertainment value.

Players like

Rivera
Baggio
Del Piero
Totti

are just not being used to there full potential.

you have got to be kidding! This season the average of goals per game has been huge, with teams like Milan and Roma perfecting both attack and defence it means that the top games are competetive and fast (take yesterday afternoon's derby). Even games between the 'lower' teams are good.

And with the current formation that Italy (as good as strikers) use the azzurri are in no way defensive.

You obviously have a dated and narrow minded view of italain football and suggest you go watch a game now!

and as for your last comment it is stupid, not being used to their full potential, how exactly?

What have you been watching? And your comparing Serie A, to the EPL this year?

Come on, this is the ignorant comments that just baffle me to no end.

First off, Roma, Juve and INTER(under Zac) do not play catenaccio style. Milan for the most part, don't play it that style either, but I have seen them use it.

Secondly, I have found the exact opposite in your league. How does Liverpool play? The EPL has not been exciting this year, and I've been watching it, more closely.

And lastly, there are different forms of catenaccio, so don't paint the whole league with one brush.

The Azzurri will be the cream of the crop, as they can attack like no other, but they can defend like no other either.

They will employ different strategies, depending on who they play. If they play France, a more defensive posture, will be adapted.

I have watched Italian football for over 25 years and my comments are not ignorant. Italy are a football power and most of the top international sides hate playing against them because of there defensive style of play. If the Italian national team had the heart and courage to play an offensive game they would have been more successful. The World Cup in 1990; the World Cup final in 1994; Euro 2000 when losing to France in the final. Italy should have won all these finals but there style of play permitted this.

My comments are not ignorant they are just how I think football should be played.

Your right, your comments in the Dutch forum are ignorant and completely lack any credibility.

Oh yeah, and thanks for hijacking this thread with this non-sense, when this could of been posted in the General Football forum. I will overlook this indiscretion, as you are new.::

We will just have to disagree. After all life is made up of opinions. My point is that Italian football is not sexy football. It is a tactical and technical minefield and only Italians can relate too.

Sorry if I have caused offence.
