England SHOULDN'T be above Italy in the rankings.
..but Italy do need to prove we're worthy of a top 5 place, which our history and overall profile suggests of our nation's footballing prowess.

Azzurri World Ranking
Marcello Lippi’s desire to experiment with the Italian national side has cost the Azzurri their place in the FIFA World Rankings top 10.
The tactician’s insistence on trying out so many uncapped and inexperienced players in friendly games has seen Italy drop to 11th in the latest standings.
Italy haven’t won since the March victory over Scotland, drawing their last four games against Iceland, Norway, Serbia & Montenegro and Ecuador.
Brazil remain first ahead of the Czech Republic and Argentina. Germany, 2006 World Cup hosts, drop down to 21st.
Top 20
1. Brazil 829 points
2. Czech Republic 790
3. Argentina 785
4. Netherlands 783 (+1)
5. France 765 (-1)
6. Mexico 759 (+1)
7. England 757 (-1)
8. Portugal 755 (+1)
9. Spain 747 (-1)
10. USA 744
11. Italy 725 (-1)
12. Sweden 722 (+1)
13. Greece 720 (-1)
14. Turkey 719
15. Republic of Ireland 714
16. Denmark 713 (+3)
17. Iran 711 (+1)
18. Japan 710 (-1)
18. Uruguay 710 (-2)
20. South Korea 696 (+1)

Indeed. Buuu-huuu-huullsheeeit. Let us sink, sink to last - I'm hoping we'll become major underdogs for World Cup 2006.
