Question Future formations and play....

Seeing how we are going, I see Italy changing formations and play again, and possibly moving away from wing back play.

The emergence of Chiellini and other players who are not typical wingback per say, will force future managers to change the current formation of playing with wingback, and force us to play with wingers.

Rosina for example.

Any thoughts on this?

That all depends on who emerges in the next few years in both positions. I'm assuming you're implying that there is and will continue to be an emergence of more talented wingers than attack minded fullbacks, and that's why future coaches will have to change formation.

Other than Rosina, who else can play on the wing? Both Casiraghi and Ranieri have tried Palladino on the wing without much success.

I'm not sure that's where the formation and play of Italy is heading. A lot depends on where Chiellini ends up, in the center or the left (he started next to Canna against the Faroes in the center). A lot also depends on Rosina and future fullbacks. I'm going to throw his name out there because I'm a big fan, but don't be surprised to see Lorenzo De Silvestri at South Africa 2010. He has been great for Lazio.

Just for fun:

Buffon
RB Barzagli Criscito Chiellini
Rosina Pirlo De Rossi LW

That is exactly what I'm saying. Rosina is the real deal, and I think we'll find someone or convert someone to play on the wing.

Chiellini is alright but he lacks the right skill set to be a dominant fullback. Actually I think he would make the perfect CB, I hope he develops there.
