Default Taddei may play for Italy

Quote:
It is being rumoured in Italy that Brazilian playmaker Rodrigo Taddei may opt to become an Italian citizen and therefore have the chance to play for the national team. The 25-year-old has some Italian ancestry, with his grandfather being Italian.

Taddei originally hoped he would play for his birth nation of Brazil, but it seems that current manager Carlos Alberto Parreira is not keen on him.

"Rodrigo awaits a signal from Brazil. He's really bound to his country and wearing the jersey is his dream. But should there be any interest from the Italian Football Federation there could be a change," Taddei's agent, Alessandro Lucci, told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Rodrigo feels really good in Italy, it is his second home and soon he will have double citizenship."

Should Taddei decide to play for the Azzurri it will be the second time in recent years that such a situation has occurred.

Two years ago Mauro German Camoranesi saw that the avenues towards the Argentinean national side were closed and therefore decided that he wanted to play for Italy and was immediately picked.
no thank you.

this is becoming a fad now, honestly, it kind of rubs me the wrong way when players "switch" their nationality just to have an oppurtunity to play.

Doesn't wrong me at all. I see it as a honour in a way.

Camo has worked hard to make the team.

Trust me, If Kaka or Adriano or Ronny wanted to play for the Azzurri, I would more than welcome them.

Guys, as long as they have an Italian father or grandfather, then I'm more open to such a move.

Its not like France!

i agree, however, i feel once u choose who u want to play for, u stick with that choice, switching teams because u cant play 1st team football is sellfish, nationality isn't something u switch on the dime for the sake of "wanting to play football".

about "where u were born", thats wasn't my point. i was saying that once u choose which team u want to play for, u stick with that choice. taddei is considering switching because he is not guaranteed a spot on brasil, he is switching for the fact that he wants to play some 1st team football, which i feel is sellfish, best of both worlds. not saying he isn't italian, but his first choice was to play for brasil, so he must stick with that...not to mention the fact he wont make the azzurri anyways.

never said he did, but that was his first choice, now he is opting for italian citizenship so he can play for the azzurri (which wont happen)

so true! how can they just get players from senegal like that and not to mention a certain algerian who is a legend. as for taddie...who cares...he isnt making it unless he gets on some sort of rampage and destroys serie A....which will never happen since he is too inconsistent as someone already said. he is average.

Taddei has admitted that he would rather play for Brazil than Italy.
