If your Nesta, would you come back now?
I'm thinking, if I'm Nesta, I don't come back, after losing my place. But I don't know how loyal he is to the country or not.
Italy call for Nesta comeback Friday 24 August, 2007
Quote:
With Marco Materazzi and Fabio Cannavaro injured, will Italy convince Alessandro Nesta to come out of international retirement?
The Azzurri are facing a crisis ahead of the most important game in Coach Roberto Donadoni’s career so far, the September 8 Euro 2008 qualifier against France at San Siro.
Materazzi is certainly ruled out after suffering a freak thigh injury during Wednesday’s 3-1 friendly in Hungary that almost ended his career.
Now captain Cannavaro is also in doubt, as he picked up a nasty knock during training with Real Madrid and has been left with a suspected sprained ankle.
The situation in defence is increasingly tense and the alternatives for the central roles are lacking in international experience for such a crucial match.
With this in mind, a newspaper campaign is mounting to bring Nesta back into the Italy fold, even if only for September’s qualifiers with France and Ukraine.
The Milan man retired from international duty this month, stating he was no longer physically able to sustain all his club and Azzurri commitments following a series of injuries.
However, it is still possible he could be coaxed back for just two decisive games in their hour of need.
It would be an intriguing exchange, as Materazzi was the man who stepped in during the 2006 World Cup when Nesta was injured – proving to be one of the leaders in that tournament.
Retiring at age 31, Nesta notched up 78 senior caps for his country, making his debut in a 3-1 victory away to Moldova on October 5, 1996.

No, it won't happen.
He's made his decision (with good reason) and I'm sure he'll stick with it.

I wouldn' come back, it is a risk of gettign reinjured and he is slowly starting to find his old form again. If I was him I wouldn't rush into too many games too soon. And besides I don't think it is right throwiing around your national team like that. You either stay or go.
But I doubt Nesta will come back.

I think a lot depends on how far Milan progress in the Champions League. An early exit and he may me tempted to return. Even with that said though, I don't think he'll come back.

He is not going to come back, since Nesta has class. He gave up his position, and when Materazzi is healthy, he won't dislodge him.
For two reasons........
Materazzi is MUCH better on dead ball situations. Killer header, maybe the best in Italy.
Materazzi adds size, remember the Scottish game. They need him for this reason on defending corners.
Let me add that Nesta is not a lot better than Materazzi defensively. I would say right now, Matrix is the best or he was before he got injured.
And for some reason, Canna plays better with him......might have to do with the size?? Feels comfortable?
Don't know?

yeah, it seems that since the wc both of them have an understanding on each others style of play and are one of the deadly duos in the internationals.
one makes up for the others short of height while the other compensates for the others short of composure and leadership.not to say matrix doesnt has it but canna seems to be have cool head on things

It's a fair point, they appear to complement each other.

I think Matrix calms the whole team down. Apparently he is a clown, stands up for his teammates and fights till the end.
Not saying Nesta doesn't have this, but Nesta is the complete opposite of Matrix in terms of.....everything really.
