German Starlet Trochowski Eager To Grab His Chance

Quote:
Piotr Trochowski says he made a compelling case for his continued inclusion in the German starting XI on the strength of his performance during the 6-0 demolition of Liechtenstein on Wednesday.

The Hamburger SV star was fielded as a playmaker in the absence of Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings and assumed the role with aplomb, creating many of his side's best chances.

"It has always been my aim to be the playmaker and when somebody has faith in me, then I pay it back," he said after the match. "I see myself as a very important part of the team.

"I set the tone in attack and take risks and, although I cannot expect all of my passes to get through, it is enough for me if one of them does and we win the game 1-0, so I will keep playing the way I do."

Trochowski, 24, was selected for the final 23-man squad for Euro 2008, but barely got a look in once there.

"It was not easy for me at Euro 2008 because I trained well, pushed hard and tried to prepare for the games and be 100% fit, but unfortunately it didn't get me anywhere," he added.

"I was sad, but that is now in the past. I have started the season positively and now everything is falling into place.

"I get stronger with every game I play. I knew I had the ability to play and that is now the case."

Trochowski is expected to get the nod again on Wednesday, as Ballack and Frings are both still unavailable due to injury.

"Finland are a lot stronger than Liechtenstein and have a lot of individual class and players who can win the game by themselves, but we are confident and we want to win," he concluded.
