Default Schalke’s Jones Denies Löw Bust Up

Quote:
Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones has denied reports of a bust-up with national team trainer Joachim Löw after he was left out of the German squad to face Switzerland in midweek.

The combative midfielder was a surprise omission from the 21 man squad for the friendly match in Basel on Wednesday night that the Germans convincingly won 3-0.

The Königsblauen midfielder had previously played in the last two German internationals and was widely expected to be given another chance to stake his claim for a place in the Euro 2008 squad.

Jones had reportedly complained about Löw not giving him enough time to prove himself at the top level but has moved to quickly deny allegations of a spat with the national team trainer.

“That was only a big misunderstanding. I telephoned the national coach and everything has been cleared up between him and me. We have no problems with one another” Jones told Bild.

“It is clear that players who played in their great World Cup campaign in 2006 have a small advantage.”

The Swiss friendly was the last match for the Germans before Joachim Löw names his squad for the finals tournament in May.
