Joachim Löw [The Coach]
Sammer Wants Loew To Stay Germany Coach After Euro 2008
The German Football Federation's sports director Matthias Sammer has called for national team coach Joachim Loew to be given a longer-term contract beyond Euro 2008.
Loew is an "absolute role model" in the job he took on from Juergen Klinsmann after the World Cup last summer, Sammer told Thursday's Die Welt newspaper.
Under 47-year-old Loew, Germany have won seven of nine games since the World Cup and are leading their qualifying group for next year's European Championships in Austria and Switzerland.
A first defeat came in a friendly against Denmark in Duisburg Wednesday evening, when an experimental German side featuring six new caps during the course of the game slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
Sammer praised Loew's work with the team, his technical knowledge and his personable manner, saying it would be "absolutely desirable if he remains with us for a long time."
Loew, who has a contract until the end of Euro 2008, was Klinsmann's choice as assistant when the former international striker became Germany coach in July 2004 after the team's poor showing at Euro 2004.
Sammer said it would be important for the development of the whole of German football, not just for the national team, if Loew were able to continue the concept begun with Klinsmann after Euro 2008.

Indeed, he's doing very well, but I wouldn't renew his contract before the Euro is over.
I wasn't a fan or Löw but he is proving to be a good coach. Better than Klinsmann for sure

For some reason I always thought Loew was always behind Klinsmann's sucess.
It looked like Klinsi was doing what Loew told him to.

No Early Extension For Joachim Löw
Despite a very successful first season in charge of the national team, an early contract extension is not on the cards for Bundestrainer Joachim Löw.
According to the trainer, “This is not an issue an issue at the moment.”
In an interview with Kicker, the national team coach said that what was important was the continuation of his sporting concept beyond 2008.
“If I had one wish, it would be that we don’t leave the path we are on and continue to develop. Who carries the concept through is not as important.”
Recently Franz Beckenbauer has suggested that Löw’s contract which runs to the European Championship be extended. Success at the European Championships next summer would surely bring about that extension.
One year before Euro 2008, Löw has evaluated his current personnel and declared that despite relatively poor seasons, Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger still feature in his plans.
“Nothing is decided, but it’s clear that we have an axis of Lehmann, Metzelder, Frings, Ballack, Schneider and Klose," he said. "They lead the team.
"Those that formed the core at the World Cup would normally be expected to be there for the European Championships - that goes for Podolski and Schweinsteiger."
Löw feels that his choices for the squad have improved since the World Cup.
“We have more alternatives than a year ago,” he explained, naming Stuttgart’s Serdar Tasci, und Sami Khedira as well as Leverkusen’s Gonzalo Castro as examples.
“We also have players returning from injury who will be pushing to return to the squad” he added. He is thinking about David Odonkor, Gerald Asamoah, Tim Borowski and Sebastian Kehl.
With 9 victories in 11 games, Löw describes Germany as “at par with the top teams in Europe like Italy, France, Portugal and England.”

Joachim Löw thread
Germany coach Joachim Low is to be offered a new deal by the German Football Federation (DFB).
Low, who took over from Jurgen Klinsmann after the 2006 World Cup, has already secured qualification to the Euro 2008 finals.
His current contract is due to expire after next summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland and the DFB are keen for Low to guide the national side to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
DFB president Theo Zwanziger said: "Our goal is to keep him on after Euro 2008 to South Africa, because we know exactly what we get with Low.
"Since 2004, he has done a lot for German football."
Under Low, Germany have lost just once in 14 matches when a weakened side was beaten 1-0 by Denmark in a friendly back in March.
The coach is ready to open talks, but want assurances over the influence he will have throughout German football.
Low said: "If the DFB want to speak about a new contract, I am ready.
"But I would like to know if they are more convinced by my results or my methods.
"In addition, it is important to have control of the coaching methods and team philosophy from the national side down to the junior teams.
"It is important for me to know these things."

When Klinsmann was on charge, people said Loew stands behind his success.
Now, I'm starting to think those people were very correct.

LOW SET FOR NEW DEAL
Joachim Low is set to sign a new deal that will keep him in charge of the national side until 2010.
Low's current deal expires after next year's Euro 2008 finals in Switzerland and Austria.
But after becoming the first side to qualify for the finals, the German Football Federation are set to reward the 47-year-old with a new improved contract.
German Football Federation president Theo Zwanzinger told SID: "On the major questions we have reached an agreement with Joachim, but it has not been formalised yet. Before it becomes official we have to answer certain questions raised by him, "
Low, who acted as assistant to Jurgen Klinsmann from 2004 to 2006, took over as coach after the 2006 World Cup.
Under his stewardship the national side have won 12 or their 16 matches.
Ironically, last week Germany suffered their first defeat of the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign when they were beaten 3-0 by the Czech Republic, a performance Low described as their worst since he took charge.

Löw Extends Germany Deal To 2010
German coach Joachim Löw has celebrated his side's qualification for Euro 2008 by signing a new contract.
Germany became first nation to qualify for Euro 2008 after a 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland two weeks ago and Löw has been rewarded with a deal that will take him through to the 2010 World Cup.
"I am absolutely delighted to continue working with my team for the next few years" Löw said at a meeting of the German Football Association (DFB) on Thursday.
"Our aim will be to push on with the development of the team and also football in Germany in general."
Co-trainer Hans-Dieter Flick and goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke have also had their contracts extended.
Former co-trainer Löw succeeded Jürgen Klinsmann as Bundestrainer after the 2006 World Cup. In 16 games, the national side have achieved 12 wins, 2 draws, and only 2 defeats, scoring 44 goals while conceding just 11.
Meanwhile, Silvia Neid, who led the Germany women's team to World Cup glory last month, has also been rewarded with an extended contract until 2013.
"I am very happy to have been able to extend the contracts of Joachim Low and Silvia Neid," said DFB president Dr Theo Zwanziger.
"I am looking forward to the continuation of our work with two competent and successful coaches and their teams."
