DFB and Adidas agree to extend partnership until 2018
The Deutsche Fußball-Bund (DFB), the governing body of football in Germany, and adidas, who have been business partners for more than 50 years, have extended their partnership until 2018. Both partners presented the new contract today in Herzogenaurach at the adidas headquarters. As a result of a comprehensive hearing, the arbitration court appointed by the parties recommended an amicable out-of-court settlement.
According to the newly forged alliance, adidas will remain the offical sporting goods supplier of the DFB, providing all DFB-teams with their game-, practice-, and leisure-gear.
adidas' support for the lasting development of the game on all levels was written into the new contract. This segment of the contract includes a close collaboration by adidas with the DFB regional associations, the facilitation and promotion of youth football, the support of the DFB's numerous social initiatives, including the construction of mini-pitches throughout the country.
"This partnership between the DFB and adidas is something special. You'd be hard-pressed to find a similar collaboration between private business and an association in terms of duration anywhere else", said Herbert Hainer, CEO adidas. "It's a great feeling that we can announce the new contract today, which means that we will continue one of the longest and most successful partnerships in sports." DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger said: "The DFB looks forward to continuing the cooperation with adidas. This partnership has focused on our national teams, whose performances on the pitch will always be very much in the public eye. Now, we will also include social and charity projects."
Major milestones along the 50-year history of the DFB and adidas alliance were the World Cup wins in 1954, 1974 and 1990 as well as the European Championships in 1972, 1980, and 1996.

Misunderstandings elimintated
Dr. Reinhard Rauball, President of the League Association DFL, and Dr. Theo Zwanziger, President of the German Football Association DFB, met today for a private one-to-one to discuss the current situation after the decision of the DFB board to extend the contract with kit-sponsor adidas until the year 2018. During these talks a number of recent mistunderstandings could be eliminated.
Dr. Rauball said after the meeting: "At no point there have there been considerations from the side of Board of the League Associaton to raise a conflict with the DFB. In fact, the main focus of our considerations presented to the DFB board was on gaining time for the negaotiations with adidas in order to come to new subject terms of contract. After my talks with Mr. Zwanziger I can now see that he could have subjectively interpreted the League´s position differently."
Dr. Zwanziger said after the exchange of ideas: "In the conversation I realised that Mr. Rauball and his colleagues in the Board of the League Association are interested in a common position and have not tried, nor will, to raise a conflict or to develop double strategies. After this conversation there is a common basis for sucessful future work in German football."
Dr. Rauball added: "Incidentally, the League rates the work of Mr. Zwanziger in recent years very positively, which is shown by the fact that we have recommended him to be re-elected as DFB President."
