"Löw coach till 2010"

DFB president Theo Zwanziger clearly expressed his trust in coach Joachim Löw after the 1-2 loss in their second match of the tournament against Croatia.

"No matter what happens, Joachim Löw will remain our coach until 2010. There are no alternative candidates. That is completely irrespective of whether we progress further in the European Championship or whether we are eliminated in the early round, which I do not assume will happen", said the head of the league a day after the German team performed disastrously in Klagenfurt.

"Like before, we intend to be the European champions"

Zwanziger reiterated that he is one hundred percent convinced by the work of the coach. "We will continue on the path we've set for ourselves, because we know that's the only way we have a chance to be successful, and that includes the next tournaments in 2010 or 2012."

Despite the defeat against Croatia, Zwanziger was firm in his adherence to the initial goal. "Like before, we intend to be the European champions. The squad have the strengths and character to do that", he said before the upcoming match on Monday against Austria in Vienna. The German team needs a draw to advance into the quarter finals.

If Loew stays than the team will remain the same, clueless and unorganized and personal fav players will be selected above true potential stars.

A lot of the new coaches of some serious powerhouse countries have been brutal. Low and Donadoni for starters.

Low Almost Quit

Joachim Low, the German coach, has confessed he almost quit his job during Euro 2008.

Despite starting the tournament brightly with an opening game victory over Poland, the Germans went on to lose to Croatia and were faced with the very real prospect of being sent home early from the competition.

Speaking to German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Low confessed that the defeat to Croatia had hit him hard and made him consider his position.

“Obviously I had these thoughts [of resigning],” he said, before adding, “But I tried to turn them into positives and don't let these thoughts get me down.”

Germany then went on to defeat Austria in their final group game to ensure qualification although Low admits that defeat would have meant a very different scenario.

“We would have had to sit down and considered how the atmosphere was and if it was worth [continuing],” he confessed before revealing that, “I cannot say what would have happened. Probably a lot would have collapsed around us.”

With the group stages safely negotiated, Germany went on to produce their best football of the tournament to defeat Portugal 3-2 and confirm their place in the semi final against Turkey.

Bundesliga Start Delights Jogi Löw

Quote:
The start of the 46th Bundesliga season this weekend has delighted German national team trainer Joachim Löw and manager Oliver Bierhoff making them very optimistic over the national side’s prospects.

“It’s great” Bierhoff said after witnessing the opening weekend of the 2008/09 Bundesliga season. “The first weekend was a sign that the league is on the up.”

Former international striker Bierhoff believed that the numerous new trainers in the top flight would have a positive influence on the league as a whole, while Joachim Löw felt the expectations were high going into a new season.

“It would be great if we could have a success at international level after so many years” the 48 year old said.

Alongside Bayern Munich, Löw reckons that both Werder Bremen and Schalke would be able to survive the Champions League group stages and then try their luck in the knock-out stage.

“I’ve been particularly impressed with the start to the season. There were lots of goals and that shows that teams are going to play attacking football.”

There were 29 goals in the first nine matches this weekend- an average of 3.2 per game.

And in contrast to many pundits, the national team boss does not see this season’s Bundesliga as a one-horse race with Bayern as the favourites.

“Of course they are the favourites, but I think that a few others will be involved in the title race- Schalke, Werder, Stuttgart, possibly even Leverkusen will do all they can to make life difficult for Bayern.”
