Jan Koller leaves Nürnberg; moves to Russia
Reports from Germany suggest that Bundesliga side Nürnberg are interested in the acquisition of Czech striker Jan Koller from AS Monaco.
The international forward, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been targeted as ‘der Klub’s’ principal transfer target.
The giant front-man is reportedly open to a move as he is currently unhappy at the principality side. He could well imagine a return to the Bundesliga, where he played for Borussia Dortmund between 2001 and 2006.
Nürnberg are willing to offer the 34 year old a longer term contract than is on offer at the French Ligue 1 club. The prospect of linking up with Czech international colleague Thomas Galasek is another reason for him to find Hans Meyer’s side attractive.
Nürnberg’s close proximity to Prague could also influence the striker’s final decision.
Sporting director Martin Bader has confirmed the club’s interest in an interview with ‘Kicker’.
“If such an opportunity came along, it would be silly not to try to make it happen.”

Nürnberg Closer To Koller
German Cup holders Nürnberg are reportedly closer to a deal for Czech striker Jan Koller, but there appears to be a sticking point regarding the transfer fee.
“We are in constant contact with Monaco” explained Nürnberg Sporting director Martin Bader admitting that there was an issue regarding the transfer fee, but that an agreement had been reached with the player.
French paper L’Equipe has revealed that Monaco are demanding €2 million for the giant forward. Another issue is the fact that the French side do not want to release Koller before a replacement has been found.
“It’s all about who is willing to make the first move” admitted Bader.
It looks likely to be the Bundesliga side that compromises first as Koller is desperately needed to help them out of the relegation struggle they find themselves in.
Koller would become the second new signing at Nürnberg following on from 29 year old defender Jacques Abardonardo signed from Nice.

Koller to Nürnberg?
Veteran Czech striker Jan Koller is close to a move to German outfit Nurnberg.
The Bundesliga side are locked in negotiations with Koller's current employers Monaco over a possible move.
The 34-year-old prefers to move and believes the deal will go through so the French side can cash in on him as he can leave for free in the summer.
Speaking of the situation, Koller said: "I started training with Monaco on Wednesday and now I am waiting to see how the discussions with Nurnberg turn out.
"The clubs are still negotiating but within a very short time the decision should be made. I expect it to be done on Thursday.
"There still are two options - either I leave or I will stay in Monaco until the summer."
When asked which of the possibilities is the more likely, Koller said: "Probably Nurnberg. My Monaco contract expires in the summer and this is a chance for them to get some money for me.
"I favour Nurnberg mainly because they don't count on me any more at Monaco. And they are offering me a two-and-a-half year contract which I will not get at any other club, with respect to my age."
Koller is no stranger to the Bundesliga after playing for Borussia Dortmund for five seasons following his switch from Anderlect for £7.5 million in 2001.
He moved to Monaco on a free transfer in June 2006 and has scored three goals in Ligue 1 this season from 11 starts and seven substitute appearances.

Koller To Nürnberg Close To Completion
The much vaunted transfer of Czech international striker Jan Koller from Monaco to Nürnberg is nearing completion.
After weeks of negotiations, his current employers Monaco have finally revealed that they are in agreement with the Bundesliga side over the sale of the giant forward.
The 34 year old, whose contract with the principality club expires at the end of the season, has arrived in Germany for a medical and is expected to sign a contract in the coming days.
"We find ourselves very close to a deal" admitted director Martin Bader.
"There are just a few minor details to sort out until the contract is signed."
The veteran Czech striker will be looking to get more playing time under his belt as he looks forward to representing his country at the European Championships in the summer.
Nürnberg look to have beaten off a last-minute bid from Fulham to land the former Borussia Dortmund forward, who scored 59 goals in 138 games in his previous spell in the Bunesliga winning the title in 2002 in the process.

Koller Completes Nürnberg Switch
Monaco's Czech striker Jan Koller has finally completed his proposed move to Bundesliga strugglers Nürnberg.
Nürnberg have confirmed a deal has been done with Monaco for the transfer of Czech Republic striker Jan Koller to the Bundesliga strugglers.
The 34 year old striker participated in his first training session with his new club on Sunday after signing a contract until 2010.
"My aim is to keep Nurnberg in the Bundesliga," Koller told a press conference on Sunday.
"I have seen the club play on television and they are not a bad side at all."
Nurnberg currently find themselves inside the bottom three in the German top flight, but Koller believes he can turn things around for last season's German Cup winners.
"With my goals, I will help ensure that the second half of the season runs better," he said.

Koller brilliant in debut
1. FC Nürnberg drew with Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 (1-1) in the first of two friendly matches in their training camp in Portimao Portugal.
Jan Koller's debut on Thursday (January 10th) was impressive, as the Czech player was able to battle through two defenders and nail the equaliser in the 32nd minute.

"Honza" says hello
Everyone in Germany knows that national team coach Joachim Löw knows his tactics.
Sometimes even DFB team manager Oliver Bierhoff has to change his suit for a track suit.
That was the case ahead of the Euro 2008 qualifier against the Czech Republic in March 2007 when Löw ordered "Olli, you'll do the Koller in training today!"
Facts
Jan Koller is 2.02 metres tall, weighs 100 kilos, shoe size 50. Löw knew that Germany had to be prepared. Still Koller gave the German defence numerous problems a few days later, although the DFB Team ran out 2-1 winners in Prague.
At times even Philipp Lahm, standing at just 1.70 metres, had to deal with the giant. "If I jump I'm in the region of his belly", Lahm joked.
59 Bundesliga goals
National team and FCN colleague Tomas Galasek played a huge part in Koller's return to the Bundesliga, and so Lahm will be up against Koller soon enough. "He only had positive things to say about Nuremberg", Koller said about Galasek's advice.
Only positive things to say about, that's also the case for Koller's spell with Borussia Dortmund. The Czech striker scored 59 goals in 138 Bundesliga matches. He's the Czech Republic's record goal-scorer and looking forward to more glory at Euro 2008.
Meyer full of praise
"It is well-known that I play with three strikers, and Jan is exactly the right striker for that system. He holds the ball very well", FCN coach Hans Meyer rings the praises.
That reminds of times at Dortmund. Koller is way more than just good in the air. Hold the ball, wait, pass - it has always been as easy as successful, as "Honza" is technically gifted as well.
Making other strikers look relatively small
"Whenever he's on the pitch all the other strikers seem to be standing at 1,50 metres - together", Matthias Sammer once said.
It will be interesting to see how Greek striker Angelos Charisteas will fit into the new system. Goalkeeper Jaromir Blazek, Koller's compatriot and friend, should still be assured of his place, however.
Great performance between the posts
But some fans may remember that Koller once put in a great performance in goal, too. In a match in Munich in November 2002 Borussia Dortmund had already made three substitutions when goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was sent off.
Koller grabbed a goalkeeper's jersey and played really well, denying Bayern on several occasions. Football magazine "kicker" even rewarded him with a place in the "team of the day".

Koller scores and scores and scores
Jan Koller celebrated a successful home match debut for 1. FC Nürnberg.
Nürnberg defeated Czech top league club Viktoria Pilsen 3-1 (2-0) and Koller had his third goal in three games.
The Czech international player scored in the 25th minute to make it 2-0, after Peer Kluge (11th min.) had put the home team in the lead. The former Gladbach player also scored in the 52nd minute to make it 3-0.
