Werder Save Özil From Schalke Turmoil- Transfer Complete
Werder Bremen have completed the signing of Mesut Özil from Bundesliga rivals Schalke, which will save the midfielder from wasting away in the reserves for the next six months.
The 19 year old U-21 international, who saw potential moves to both Hannover and Stuttgart break down in recent days, will be a relieved man after he was told he wouldn’t play for the club again by manager Andreas Müller.
Having refused an improved contract offer, the Königsblauen labelled the youngster greedy and uncommitted to the club and said his future lay elsewhere- but only if a club came in and paid the fee demanded.
Werder have done just that and have reportedly signed up the talented playmaker to a contract until 2011.
“It was an incredible opportunity to take a 19 year old U-21 player with his technical ability and speed under contract. He has great potential for the future” explained Werder manager Klaus Allofs.
Trainer Thomas Schaaf added: “I’m looking forward to working with him. With him we have the opportunity to improve our midfield and to vary things a bit.”
Özil will inherit the number 11 shirt at the Weser Stadion and is excited at the prospect of playing for Werder.
“I had very good talks with Thomas Schaaf and Klaus Allofs. Werder are one of the top clubs in Germany and are always at the top of the table” he explained.
“Lots of players that have come here have improved and for me Werder as the best opportunity to develop myself further.
“I’m looking to the challenge.”

Özil In To Replace Diego?
Mesut Özil completed a move from Schalke to Werder Bremen yesterday. But if you believe Bild, he's been brought in to replace Diego.
Mesut Özil's nightmare auf Schalke finally came to an end on transfer deadline day as he secured a move to Werder Bremen.
After Stuttgart and Hannover tried and failed to land the German youth international, the Green-and-Whites swooped in at the last minute to saving the player from spending six months punishment in the Schalke reserves.
Özil will be introduced to the media at noon today in Bremen having signed a deal at the Weserstadion until 2011.
He'll earn €1.5m a year at Werder, while Schalke have netted €4.5m from his transfer, rising to €6m should he become an international for either Germany or Turkey, the country of this parents.
"It was a deal that all parties could live with," Schalke sporting director Andreas Müller, no doubt glad to see the back of the player, told Bild. "It certainly wasn't a bad deal for Özil - one moment he's an outcast here because of his contract antics, the next he's suddenly competing for the title with Werder."
Bremen's sporting director, Klaus Allofs, meanwhile suggested that Özil was being brought to the Weserstadion for the long term. Speculation is now abound that this means the youngster, an attacking midfielder, has been drafted in as successor to Brazilian superstar Diego.
Bild claim that Werder have resigned themselves to losing the former Santos and FC Porto man to a top club in Spain or Italy - if not this summer, then next. They are hoping that Diego can teach fellow dribbler and flair player Özil a thing or two before he packs his bags.

He should.
He has to polish this raw diamond. What's the point of having promising players if you're not gonna use their abilities?

If we don't bring in anymore midfielders he will battle with Hunt for the LM spot. He will surely have his playtime as a sub for Diego and he will play if Diego goes to the Olympics.

Allofs Has Big Belief In Ozil
Quote:
Werder Bremen director Klaus Allofs has heaped praise on Mesut Özil following the nine goal thriller against Hoffenheim on the weekend.
The highly promising 19-year-old opened and ended the scoring in the 5-4 victory for Werder, making it three goals in the last two games along with a magnificent contribution overall.
Allofs says he is very pleased by the impact that the summer signing has had in recent games, but insists that he is not at all surprised by it.
"It has been a natural progression for him," said Allofs. "Even when he was still very young we observed in him big potential, with his speed, ability with the dead ball and his killer passes. It was only natural that he would start adding goals to his repertoire as well.
"This is all due to his increased self belief. When he first arrived you could almost say he showed too much humility. He had a tough time behind him at Schalke and immediately faced a lot of competition here. We just always made sure to let him know that we believe in him, even in difficult moment. However, we also had to shield him at times by putting him on the bench when everyone was really eager to see what he can offer.
Allofs added: "The most important thing has always been to create the right environment to promote his development, which is a long way from being over. But one of his strengths is that he fully realises that he still has a lot to learn."

Ozil Player Of The Month In Germany
Quote:
Mesut Özil has been rewarded for his outstanding performances for Werder Bremen over the last few games by being overwhelmingly selected as the Bundesliga's player of the month.
A staggering 73.5% of fans voted for him in a poll put on jointly by Kicker Magazine, DSF Television and the German Football League. Some distance behind him were Bayer Leverkusen's (19.6%) and Hoffenheim's Vedad Ibisevic (6,9%).
The 19-year-old, who is now blooming at Werder since arriving from Schalke in the summer, showed plenty of humility when receiving his reward.
"I am very happy to be receiving this award, most of all because it was chosen by the fans," said Germany U-21 star. "But the fact that I am recognised as such, is a credit to the team, without whom I would never been able to achieve this."
Özil's standout performance thus far was during the epic match against Hoffenheim recently, when he opened and ended the scoring in the 5-4 victory for Werder. He also caught the eye during Werder's credible 1-1 draw away to Inter on Wednesday.

At the moment DFB and the turkish national team are fighting for Özil. Germany has the better chances because Özil said multiple times that he wants to play for Germany and he already gave back his turkish passport.

Allofs To Low: Don't Let Turks Have Ozil
Quote:
Joachim Low cannot pass the chance to make Mesut Ozil a German national team player, warned Werder Bremen director Klaus Allofs.
The 19-year-old, who is now blooming at Werder since arriving from Schalke in the summer, has Turkish parents but was born in Germany so he is eligible to play for either national sides.
"Mesut feels like a German and, from the German side of things, everything has got to be done to convince him to play for Germany," Allofs said in a recent interview with the Bild newspaper.
Özil has been rewarded for his outstanding performances for Weser side over the last few games by being overwhelmingly selected as the Bundesliga's player of the month.
"We are thinking about him and I will speak with him after the upcoming internationals," said Low about the attacking midfielder, who has made eight appearances for the Germany U-21 team.
