Kuranyi scored a goal for Schalke yesterday, but it didn't mean much cuz lost to Buchum 2-1. It was Kuranyi's 14th goal.

Good season for Kuranyi, he is challenging Klose for the starting spot in the NT

Kuranyi thanks Altintop and Reck

Kevin Kuranyi scored the only goal of the game against Nürnberg. But after the final whistle the 25-year-old striker emphasised the contribution of two other members of the Schalke team.

His first thank you went to the player who made the goal, Hamit Altintop. "The huge effort Hamit put in shows he has character. There's absolutely no doubt he'll give his all for Schalke until the end of the season", Kuranyi explained. He also passed on some of the credit for his headed goal to goalkeeper coach Oliver Reck. "He's the reason why my heading has improved even more. We often stay behind after training to practice - and Oliver provides the crosses."

Yet Kuranyi was self-critical enough to admit that the margin of victory should have been higher, saying: "I had other chances as well but maybe I made the wrong decisions in front of goal. Nevertheless I'm obviously delighted with the win."

Asked for his view on the game he said: "There were a lot of one-against-one situations, especially in the first half. But we knew it would be difficult for them to defend like that for 90 minutes. At half-time the boss told us to stay calm and step up the pressure going forward. My goal was nice and obviously very important."

The win moves the Royal Blues one step closer to the league title. "But we have two key games ahead of us. We won't need any extra motivation for the derby in Dortmund, and this time we know a win will keep us on top of the table," Kuranyi added.

And the Germany striker is totally infected with the Schalke virus: "I'm very happy at the moment, it's as simple as that, but I'm also very focused because this season we have the chance to achieve something really big. I'm desperate to win the title."

Default Kuranyi sure of Schalke's destiny

It is still anyone's guess as to who will take the German title with two matches to go after the three remaining contenders each held their nerve to secure crucial wins at the weekend.

Kuranyi quality
FC Schalke 04 still top the table with 65 points, VfB Stuttgart are just a point behind, on the same goal difference, while Werder Bremen are hot on their heels on 63 points with a goal difference superiority of 13 goals. Kevin Kuranyi's goal gave Schalke a 1-0 win against 1. FC Nürnberg and team-mate Fabian Ernst was grateful to the German international for rising to the occasion. "Kevin wants the title more than anyone else," said Ernst. "He is now proving what a great forward he is." Kuranyi himself added: "It was a beautiful and vital goal for Schalke but there are still two more games in which I can score even more important goals. We are very close to the title now."

Slomka delight
Schalke coach Mirko Slomka was delighted at the way his team bounced back from last week's 2-1 defeat at VfL Bochum 1848. "I am glad we won against such a tough team," he said. "I still believe the title will be decided on the last day. We want to take our small advantage into the last game and certainly fare better in our next derby than we did against Bochum." Schalke travel to BV Borussia Dortmund in what is perhaps the biggest derby in German football before hosting DSC Arminia Bielefeld in their season finale.

'No nerves'
Stuttgart had no problems overcoming relegation-threatened 1. FSV Mainz 05 with a 2-0 home win. Having started the season with UEFA Cup aspirations, Stuttgart are relishing the prospect of a UEFA Champions League upgrade. "We've worked hard to get this far," said Roberto Hilbert, who scored the second goal on Saturday. "We don't care what Schalke are doing. Why should we get nervous now?"

Bremen goals
While some feared Bremen might slip up against Hertha BSC Berlin on Sunday following their UEFA Cup semi-final exit last week, they did anything but, stating their title credentials with a classy 4-1 win against the club from the capital. "The team proved that it has goals to reach and that it intends to reach them," said coach Thomas Schaaf. "It was important to see how the team reacted after losing on Thursday."

Dortmund test
With the title run-in going down to the wire, all eyes will be on Schalke's trip to Dortmund, a match which will be played in front of 80,000 spectators. "We want to win, but everyone knows that BVB will make things extremely difficult," said Slomka. However, things will not be much easier for Stuttgart, who travel to in-form Bochum, and Bremen, who host Eintracht Frankfut. With the title within touching distance there are no easy games for anyone.

Default Kuranyi slams Klinsmann

Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi has slammed former Germany boss Juergen Klinsmann for his man-management skills.

Kuranyi was not selected by Klinsmann in Germany's World Cup squad and the former Stuttgart man criticised the former Internazionale, Bayern Munich and Tottenham striker for not explaining why he was being dropped.

"[Klinsmann] is responsible for the biggest disappointment in my career," Kuranyi complained to Max magazine. "I have worked with many good coaches, who also put me on the bench for periods of time, but they always told me why.

"I respect these coaches. I have never met someone who drops me in such a cold manner."

The 25-year-old, whose club appear to have thrown away their chance at the Bundesliga title which - ironically - his former club Stuttgart are set to win, sees his future as a foreign adventure.

"Naturally the English, Spanish and Italian leagues would be a great challenge for me," he declared.

"And I'm sure that at some point I will be able to play there. But my contract runs until 2010, and I want to try to honour it."

Default Awake from the nightmare

Kevin Kuranyi has come out of his "summer nightmare" and can't wait for the new season to begin. bundesliga.de on Schalkes Number 22.

Kevin Kuranyi was the hot shot from Stuttgart who was going to win, "as many titles as possible with Schalke". Especially the league title.

Consistent history

In 2001 and 2002 Schalke lost the final of the Premiere League Cup 4-1 against Hertha BSC.

In 2005 Kuranyi signed and picked up his first title with the Premiere League Cup. Kuranyi scored the winning goal in the 10th minute. It was also scored against his previous employer's - Stuttgart. It was no surprise either when Kuranyi netted a brace against Stuttgart in the second game of the season. It was all going to plan.

However, football has a history of coming back to haunt you. An unbelievable championship run in from VfB Stuttgart saw them first past the post and clinch the league championship.

Slow burner

That was a bitter sweet pill to swallow for the striker with Hungarian-Brazilian-Panamanian roots.

Kuranyi himself had a fantastic season. He found the net 15 times and set up eleven goals. He put his body on the line for a total of 2.889 minutes and played in every league game.

Kuranyi is now an established player at Schalke and someone that the younger players look up to. The previous season before the world cup he scored ten times in 30 matches. Not a bad return but not enough to win a place in the world cup squad.

"Summer nightmare"

It was a miserable summer for Kuranyi. However, he is back and ready for the new season.

"You have to set yourself new targets and then give your absolute all to reach them", is a motto of the strikers. "But you still have to have fun playing."

Since his recall to the German national side he has scored three in three. Kuranyi has set himself new goals and a lot of them. He has the necessary motivation to ensure that he doesn't have another "summer nightmare".

Default Fenerbahce want Kuranyi

Schalke 04 are facing a fight to keep Kevin Kuranyi after it emerged that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are chasing the Germany striker.

Fenerbahce are understood to have seen a 10 million euro bid rejected for the Brazil-born hitman but are willing to go higher to get the man who was booed by his own fans in the 2005/6 season and excluded from the Germany World Cup squad.

"He is a world class striker," declared Fenerbahce boss Zico of his 'compatriot'. "With him we would finally have a chance in the Champions League."

It signifies a remarkable turnaround for Kuranyi, 25 years old and rated in the 15 million euro bracket, who saw his career stall after moving from Stuttgart to Schalke but underwent a rejuvenation last season.after scoring 15 Bundesliga goals.

"I know of the offer," admitted Schalke team manager Andreas Mueller.

"But I am not suicidal. Kevin belongs here, playing alonside Marcelo Bordon and Fabian Ernst as the spine which we want to build our new team around.

"We will sell him for no amount of money."

The player himself said he was flattered by the interest but would not be seeking a move, aware of the effect this may have on his national team ambitions following his 2006 disappointment.

"It honours me and makes me proud that a great player and coach like Zico should want me," Kuranyi said.

"But I still have great ambitions with my club. Furthermore, the European Championships take place at the end of the season. Such a move would only hinder my chances."

Kuranyi moved to Schalke in 2005 after becoming a Stuttgart folk hero but only scored 10 goals in his first season at the Gelsinkirchen club and lost his place in the Germany side, which he has since regained.

The player was recently involved in a row with Schalke president Josef Schnusenberg over the sales of Hamit Altintop and Lincoln.

He could actually move.. He criticised his team a few days ago.
But wait..
There's no way the move can happen.
Schalke want Appiah and Fenerbahce have rejected them twice.
Can't see Schalke willing to do business with Fenerbahce, unless they sell Appiah to Schalke.

Told you he was negociating with another club

I agree the move won't happen, even if they offer Appiah. Schalke are not stupid to sell their best striker for a midfielder that would want the highest salary at the club.

Default Kuranyi rejects Fener talk

Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi says he has no interest in moving to Turkey to join Fenerbahce.

The Germany international has been linked with a €15million switch to the Istanbul club, but says he has no intention of leaving the Veltins-Arena.

Kuranyi, who scored in his side's 3-0 friendly win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, said: "I am honoured by the offer and the compliments I received from their coach Zico, but I won't change clubs as I still have big plans with Schalke."

The striker fell out with club officials last week after criticising Schalke's transfer policy, which has seen key players leave and so far no big names arrive.

Turkish star Hamit Altintop has left to join Bayern Munich and Brazilian play-maker Lincoln has signed for Galatasaray, with Basel's Ivan Rakitic, Bielefeld defender Heiko Westermann and midfielder Jermaine Jones coming in.
