Mario Gomez [Stuttgart]
VfB Stuttgart's Mario Gomez has developed into a real goalgetter. But the striker wants to achieve even more.
Super Mario is eyeing the big prize: After Mario Gomez has helped his club VfB Stuttgart out of the crisis and himself to the top of the goalscoring charts with five goals in five matches, he is aiming for his next goal.
"Of course I want into the German national team. I know what I'm capable of", said the 21 year old.
It would be only the logical consequence of his career if Joachim Löw would hand him his first cap. And the German national coach already has the son of a Spanish man and a German woman on his shortlist.
Tomasson displaced
The striker was in all German youth teams, from the U16s to the U21s, and he always showed his strength: Scoring goals, no matter if with his head, left or his strong right foot.
"I don't demand anything, and I'm not not getting overly excited. I want to convince on the pitch", Gomez explained. That's what Riedlingen-born Gomez does on a regular basis, leaving Jon Dahl Tomasson only a place on the bench.
Six goals last season
Last season Gomez, who has a contract until 2011, came from the bench himself, but he suggested what was about to come with six goals.
Some already expect Gomez to follow in the footsteps of Kevin Kuranyi. Both made their first appearances in the Bundesliga team under former VfB Head Coach Felix Magath.
Fan of Eto'o
Kuranyi is just one centimetre taller than Gomez (1,89 metres), and both have their strengths especially in their great work-rate.
Gomez, a fan of FC Barcelona and Samuel Eto'o, rates himself as down-to earth. That will surely help the Swabian pockets fan, if his rise is continuing at this speed.

See what she does then. You will have basically turned the tables on her. Tried this a few times, always works.

Mario Gomez is VfB Stuttgart's goal-getter. In an interview with the club's website the striker speaks about past, present and future.
Question: Mario Gomez, do you remember August 12th 2006?
Mario Gomez: We had a poor start into the season, the team and I. The match against Nuremberg was a disaster! That's why we will approach the first match after the winter break in Nuremberg completely different. We know what it's all about.
Question: The more surprising it is that you have turned into an acclaimed goal-getter just half a year later. You have the best goal-scoring record in the squad and you're a regular.
Gomez: I'm delighted that things have improved after the poor start. My goal at the start of the season was to be in the starting eleven on a regular basis. I've achieved that now and it makes me happy. But I'm just 21 years old and able to improve in all areas, and that's what I have to do.

Stuttgart youngster Mario Gomez has expressed delight at scoring on his international debut in Germany's 3-1 win over Switzerland.
In the absence of the suspended Lukas Podolski and the injured Miroslav Klose, Gomez was given the chance to lead Germany's attack alongside Kevin Kuranyi and the 21-year-old paid back the faith by building on Kuranyi's lead with a fine header on 30 minutes.
"In sporting terms this week has been the best ever in my whole life. It was just wonderful," he smiled.
"The team gave me a warm welcome and it's great fun to train with them.
"And then the coach told me that I would get the chance to start the match up front - this was a fantastic week for me," said the in-form forward, who is currently the Bundesliga's leading striker having netted 11 goals for third-placed Stuttgart.
