Gomez To Roma Just Rumours - Agent

Mario Gomez's agent, Maurizio Gaudino, has rubbished reports claiming his client will join Roma next season.

The Stuttgart striker has been a revelation in the Bundesliga and he just finished behind Luca Toni in the top-scorers chart.

Reports in Italy suggested that the Giallorossi were keen on bringing the player to the Olimpico as they strengthen for next season.

However, Gaudino insists the move is based on fantasy and that his client will stay in Germany.

"Gomez's move to Roma is just based on talk and it's all been invented," the agent told Roma News.

"We have not heard from Roma or any of their representatives.

"Of course it would be an honour for him to play in the Champions League with a team like Roma and alongside champions like Totti.

"However, it is likely that Gomez will remain in Germany as he still has four years on his contract with Stuttgart."

Roma are on the verge of keeping Mirko Vucinic on a permanent basis after reaching a deal for his full rights with Lecce. Therefore it seems unlikely that the club will invest in new hit-men given their recent financial troubles.

Stuttgart Rule Out Gomez Sale

Stuttgart have announced that German striker Mario Gomez will not be joining Bayern Munich.

The international forward has been recently linked with a move to the Bundesliga champions and the two clubs are reported to have met on Friday.

Stuttgart manager Horst Heldt however has ruled out any such move with a statement on the club’s official website.

"We have informed FC Bayern that we will not be selling Mario Gomez" he said.

"There was an exchange of information in which Bayern announced their interest in Gomez" Stuttgart spokesman Oliver Schraft explained.

"But the issue is now dealt with as far as we are concerned."

Despite finishing as the club’s top scorer in the two previous seasons, Gomez has failed to impress so far at the European Championships and recently lost his place in the starting line-up for the quarter final win over Portugal.

Ballack Blames Bayern For Gomez's Euro Flop

Germany captain and former Bayern Munich star Michael Ballack has criticsed the Bavarian giants for their public pursuit of his compatriot Mario Gomez, implying that it has affected his form at Euro 2008...

Gomez has emerged as one of Germany's best young talents over the past two seasons with VfB Stuttgart and was tipped to shine at Euro 2008 - his first major international tournament - only to go three games without scoring and generally not looking himself in front of goal.

His most embarrassing moment came against Austria, where a ball bobbled up in front of him and he failed to make a proper connection, spooning the ball over the bar two yards from an open goal.

Going into the tournament his record at international level was an exceptional six goals in 10 games, it has now been 13 and the striker will be hoping he is afforded a second chance, though he is unlikely to play a part in the remainder of their Euro campaign, which continues tomorrow with their semi-final against Turkey.

Team-mate and captain Ballack has empathised with the player, suggesting that Bayern Munich's interest in the player has put him off his game.

"I certainly find it odd negotiations are taking place during the European Championship. That is not good for the player and disturbs concentration," he insisted.

"I have always had the view that I have done something before or after a tournament, so that you don't have to be busy with it during the tournament."

GOMEZ SET FOR STUTTGART TALKS

Stuttgart president Erwin Staudt has revealed plans for clear-the-air talks between chairman Dieter Hundt and striker Mario Gomez.

The forward has been persistently linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich and the speculation has overshadowed his performances at Euro 2008.

Rumours over the player's future have also reportedly led to a rift between him and the chairman - something which Staudt is keen to address.

Staudt told German daily the Stuttgarter Zeitung: "I will ensure that both sit down at the table. With that, the case would be closed.

"Mario should concentrate on the European Championship. After that we will find a time for that conversation. There has to be calm - and I will achieve that."

Stuttgart officials held talks last week with their Bayern counterparts, but the club have always denied they are prepared to sell Gomez.

Staudt added: "We are in control of the deal. Mario Gomez belongs to our family - and we fight for every family member."

Germany captain Michael Ballack earlier suggested Bayern's pursuit of the 22-year-old had unsettled the striker.

Gomez has certainly failed to live up to expectations in Austria and Switzerland, failing to score in Germany's three group games before being dropped for the quarter-final win over Portugal.

The Gunners are reported to be at the head of the queue for Gomez, who scored 19 goals in the Bundesliga last season to cement his status as one of Europe’s most promising young centre-forwards.

Bayern Munich are also eager to snap up the Spanish-descended hitman, while Stuttgart are determined to hold onto their main goal-threat.

Big things were expected of Gomez coming into EURO 2008, as he was selected by Joachim Löw to lead Germany’s line alongside Miroslav Klose.

The 22-year-old has had a stinker of a tournament, to put it bluntly, appearing out of his depth and contriving not to score despite being gifted a number of gilt-edged opportunities.

Many have put his poor performances down to inexperience, and Matthaus believes there is no better place for a rising star to sort out his kinks than at the Emirates.

“It would be great for Gomez to work with a manager like Arsene Wenger — especially if Arsenal lose goal-getter Emmanuel Adebayor to Inter or AC Milan,” the former Bayern sweeper said in The Sun.

“If Gomez really seeks a change, I would suggest a move to a club which plays in the Champions League. Judging from his potential, that is where he belongs.

“He has got enough offers. He should retreat for a couple of days and then make a decision by himself. His destiny is on the line.”

Despite announcing that their spending for this summer is over, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the club are still keeping close tabs on Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez and could move for him in the future.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has not ruled out a future move for German international striker Mario Gomez vowing to keep up the club's interest in Stuttgart forward.

'Super Mario' didn't have the best of tournaments during Euro 2008 despite being billed as one of the stars to watch. He failed to find his form and eventually lost his place in the German starting line-up.

He has been at the centre of much transfer speculation over the past season with Bundesliga champions Bayern high on the list of possible suitors, although he is contracted at the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadion until 2012.

Bayern however are not giving up hope of landing the most sought-after player in the Bundesliga.

"There is a clause in his contract which gives us the possibility to bring him here, possibly within the next year" Rummenigge said.

Bayern already possess three top strikers in Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski and news that they are still tracking Gomez must send shudders across the rest of the Bundesliga.
