Gomez prefers the primera diviosn. I think he will join Barca next summer or even this summer if Barca wants to spend a huge amount of money on him.

Barcelona could step up their interest in Stuttgart's Mario Gómez this summer with the club looking to add another striker to their ranks before the start of the new season.

With names such as Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Villa ruled out, the Blaugrana are studying making an official offer after prolonged talks with the German forward's agent.

Txiki Begiristain has met Gómez's representative, Uli Ferber, on various occasions because he also works for Aleksandr Hleb, who the Catalan club hope to sign within the next week.

"Barcelona have asked me about Mario," Ferber told Sports Bild recently.

A move for Gómez may not depend on Samuel Eto'o staying or going because Barcelona want an extra striker like they had when Henrik Larsson was at the club.

While Gómez may only be 22 and may not be satisfied sitting on the bench, the German international, whose father is from Granada, has been a lifelong fan of Barça.

Stuttgart recognise that Gómez is hot property and according to reports would demand a fee of between €40 and €50m in a bid to scare off any would-be buyers.

Barcelona would be ready to offer between €15m and €20m in order to test the club's resolve for the forward that netted 19 goals in 25 games and was named Bundesliga Player of the Year.
