Default blanc takes over at bordeuax

Former Manchester United and France defender Laurent Blanc has been confirmed as the new coach of Bordeaux.

The 41-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Bordeaux and replaces Ricardo Gomes, who left the helm on Thursday to take charge of Ligue 1 rivals Monaco.

It is Blanc's first job as a coach, and he will be helped in the role by Jean-Louis Gasset.

A statement on the club's official website said: "FC Bordeaux are pleased to announce the signing of Laurent Blanc to the position of coach at the club.

"It will be a first experience as a coach for the former France international (97 caps), world champion and European champion with Les Bleus in 1998 and 2000.

"Laurent Blanc signed a two-year contract and will be accompanied by Jean-Louis Gasset. The latter will occupy the post of assistant trainer and has also signed a two-year contract."

Despite Blanc's lack of coaching experience, the former defender can boast an illustrious playing career with clubs like Inter Milan, Marseille, Barcelona and United, with whom he won the Premiership title in 2003.

Bordeaux have told Rangers and Tottenham they want at least £10million for Julien Faubert.

The 23-year-old's agent Philippe Sol revealed on Sunday that both clubs were interested in the France international, with Gers boss Walter Smith reported to be willing to shell out £5million.

But Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud insists he wants Faubert to stay - and even if he were to go, his suitors will have to spend big.

He told the Daily Record: "We understand the agent has been very active but we don't want to sell him.

"And even if we did agree to sell, £5million would be too low. We do not have a fixed price for him but it would have to be double the kind of money talked about."

Faubert has been a regular for Bordeaux since signing from Cannes in 2004 and scored on his debut for France against Bosnia last year.
