Lille are playing real tough against Manchester United, but they need to pick up the tempo and score a couple of goals if they have any chance of advancing.

Manchester United won on a cheap goal...Terrible display by the Referee...Lille a team with a small budget really played beyond themselves and to watch any hope at all in advancing swept away with a bad call by the referee.

I have nothing against the way Manchester United play in today's game against Lille. They played with alot of courage and came out to win the game, but the referee should allow Lille time to set up the wall on that free kick. He never even blew the whistle. I felt it was a real bad call and was not necessary. He made the right decision to disallow the goal by Lille and he should have disallow the Manchester United goal as well.

That same stunt was pulled against Chelsea but apparently it's legal.

Lille's coach Puel complained that Coach Sir Alex Ferguson was up to his old tactics in the 1st leg of their Champions league tie. Alex Ferguson is well known for screaming and hollering when his team is out played. The whole non-existant racial chants at Luz and the unfair treatment Lille received in their champions league bout. It's funny that people are calling for Lille to be sanction and that either they should play their games in an empty stadium or on a neutral site. The last I knew they where force to play all their games away from their home stadium. The bottomline 200 million dollar Manchester United have been held in check by 34 million dollar Lille..I would love to see what Manchester United reaction would have been if the tables where turn in last night match and that controversial goal was scored by Lille..

Why was it controversial? I really don't see why there is a debate on United's goal; a free kick is there to give the attacking side an advantage after one of their players had been fouled.

It is perfectly legal to score a goal without the whistle blowing, players have been doing it for years. It was more genius then anything. Lille are sore and are a disgrace for trying to walk of the pitch.

Inquiry into Lille-United incidents
UEFA has opened an investigation into events at the UEFA Champions League first knockout round first-leg match between LOSC Lille Métropole and Manchester United FC in Lens on Tuesday night.
Possible violations
European football's governing body said on Wednesday that it was investigating possible violations of binding UEFA safety and security instructions by the host club, as well as the alleged improper conduct of both sets of supporters. The matter will be discussed at the next ordinary meeting of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on 22 March.
Lille protest
UEFA also confirmed on Wednesday evening that it had received a protest from Lille concerning an alleged violation of the Laws of the Game by the referee when Manchester United scored the only goal of the match through Ryan Giggs. A decision will be taken on Friday afternoon.

I completely agree. Too many dubious calls going for English clubs of late in Europe.

'Too many' - which ones?
For a start the United one wasn't dubious; it is legal, so I don't see how anyone can complain. Lille haven't got a leg to stand on in the appeal.
