Viola snap up 'new Savicevic' Saturday 16 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are reports Fiorentina have beaten Real Madrid to the signing of 18-year-old prodigy Stevan Jovetic – nicknamed the new Dejan Savicevic.

The Montenegrin support striker was a target for clubs all over Europe from Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk to the Merengues.

However, it is claimed in today’s Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere dello Sport that Viola transfer guru Pantaleo Corvino has leapt to the front of the queue.

Fiorentina reportedly have secured his signature for next season during negotiations ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Cup game with Rosenborg.

Jovetic stayed in Florence for three days and two nights to finalise the details of the contract.

Still only 18, he grew up in the Mladost Podgorica youth system before joining Partizan Belgrade in 2003.

He only signed his first professional contract with the club in August 2007 and is already the top scorer in the Serbian League with 11 goals in 17 games.

Fiorentina Announce Jovetic Signing

Quote:
Fiorentina have finally signed Partizan Belgrade starlet Stevan Jovetic, the Viola’s sporting chief Pantaleo Corvino has announced.

The 18-year-old is rated by many as one of Europe’s most promising talents, and a host of top clubs were said to be interested in signing him, including Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Fiorentina have been trying to tie up a deal for quite sometime now, but have finally succeeded after the player passed a medical, before agreeing personal terms.

The Viola will pay Partizan £5 million for the striker, who has scored 19 goals in 63 appearances for the Serbian outfit.

"I've bought an important player," said Fiorentina transfer chief Corvino.

"Jovetic wanted to come here, I've agreed to pay £5 million and can announce his purchase."

Jovetic, known as the ‘new Dejan Savicevic’, has won one cap for the Montenegrin national team, and is part of an exciting batch of youngsters from the newly independent country.

The forward joins the youth brigade already present in Florence, players such as Riccardo Montolivo, Marco Donadel, Giampaolo Pazzini and Zdravko Kuzmanovic.

Quite a coup if he's as good as he's supposed to be. Quite cheap as well.

Try this out. When she is about to say yes or no, pull back and say, "nah, I change my mind" and sort of walk away.

See what she does then. You will have basically turned the tables on her. Tried this a few times, always works.

Jovetic's Viola pride Tuesday 3 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stevan Jovetic has described his move to Fiorentina as “a dream come true” and can’t wait to follow in the footsteps of Gabriel Batistuta.

The 18-year-old hitman signed from Partizan for a fee of around £5m and is seen as an exciting prospect for the future.

And today the Montenegrin starlet has explained the allure of the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“I chose Fiorentina because they have a young and competitive squad and they are a great club from a stupendous city,” Jovetic declared.

“I think I am ready for the Italian League. Naturally it will take a lot of effort and a huge commitment to work.

“But since I was a boy my dream was to play in Serie A, especially in the stadium that Batistuta graced and today that has come true.”

The battle for a starting place alongside Romanian goal machine Adrian Mutu could be intense next term.

Fiorentina have already added Milan marksman Alberto Gilardino to their attacking ranks and also look set to keep hold of Azzurrini man Pablo Daniel Osvaldo and Giampaolo Pazzini.
