Prandelli hails UEFA heroics Friday 11 April, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fiorentina are through to the UEFA Cup semi-finals and Coach Cesare Prandelli was glowing with pride after his side upset to odds to beat PSV.

The Viola beat PSV 2-0 at the Philips Stadion to go through 3-1 on aggregate and set up a final four date with Rangers.

Adrian Mutu was the star with a crucial brace, including a 30-yard free-kick, and Sebastien Frey saved a penalty, but it was an impeccable team performance in Holland last night.

“We were marvellous!” Prandelli roared. “We put in a great performance and we are proud of it.

“We wanted to give 100 per cent, partly just for the travelling fans who followed us all that way.

“What was important was that we played good football, but were organised at the same time.

“When you play in a compact, convincing and determined fashion, this kind of performance is inevitable.

“The strikers did good work so that when we were under pressure we got the ball back an infinite number of times.

“I was calm. I saw the way that the players were training and I knew that we could do this.

“We are taking on Rangers? I am just thinking about celebrating with my lads and then we will think about the League from tomorrow.”

It’s mission accomplished in Europe, but the Gigliati must quickly turn their attention to domestic affairs when they visit leaders Inter on Sunday evening.

who do they meet in the semis??it would be a great final if its bayern vs fiorentina.

What brilliant strikes by Mutu. How great has he been?!If we seriously have a shot of buying him I wouldnt hesitate for a minute.Montolivo played well. But Mutu was man of the match.

Imagine if they face Bayern in the finals. The emotion of playing Luca Toni again....this is making for some good football.

Spalletti: ... Spalletti? I was not on the pitch today, the players are on the pitch and worked great.
