Arezzo defender Andrea Ranocchia is being watched by Italian giants Juventus, Inter and Fiorentina.

The stopper is one of the most promising players in the land and reports suggest that all three clubs are preparing a bid.

Ronocchia, who was only born in 1988, is a recognised centre-back even if he can also perform adequately on either flank as a full-back if necessary.

I've always thought of him as a FB to be honest but even so I'm not sure he's good enough to play for a club as big as Juventus.

He's made 15 total appearances for Arezzo this season, 10 in Serie B and 5 in the Coppa Italia.

“He played for the regional schoolboys team as a midfielder, but then he was selected for the Azzurri schoolboys and became a central defender. He was all ready for the reserves and then we went bankrupt.

“He has excellent physical attributes. He is tall and muscular, good in the air and despite his size he is far from slow. What’s more he is a great lad, very humble and family-centred.”

Ranocchia is likely to act as cover as Fiorentina have a formidable defence and conceded the fewest goals in Serie A last term – a miserly 31.

“He may not be ready to be first choice at Fiorentina, but I think that at such a club and with a boss like Cesare Prandelli his growth will accelerate,” Rondini concluded.

Fiorentina are set to complete the signing of promising Azzurrini defender Andrea Ranocchia.

The towering stopper seemed to have completed a move to the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer and had spoken of his desire to join Cesare Prandelli's side.

However, Serie C Arezzo’s fragile financial situation caused the transfer to stall and Ranocchia has been forced to ply his trade in the third tier.

Fiorentina have struggled for strength in depth in defence this term and would still welcome the addition of Ranocchia and it looks increasingly likely that a deal could be done.

The Gigliati are expected to pay Arezzo £1.4m for a share of the Perugia native’s rights and sporting director Pantaleo Corvino is due to travel across Tuscany to discuss business at the start of January.

Very good move. I believe clubs should be investing in young defenders, I see a shortage in the next five years.
