Official: Semioli Joins Fiorentina

Chievo Verona midfielder Franco Semioli is just days away from signing for Fiorentina, his agent has confirmed.

The Gialloblu were recently relegated to Serie B and are likely to lose the Italian international as a result.

“The transfer has temporarily stalled as this is not an easy operation to complete,” said agent Marcello Bonetto.

“Fiorentina are following the player closely, but there are some problems between the two clubs as they are not speaking on a regular basis.

“However, I am confident that the move can be finalised over the next few days.”

Chievo sporting director Giovanni Sartori last week insisted that no decision had been made on the proposed sale of Semioli.

The winger is also a reported target for Roma, who had already been paired with the 26-year-old last summer, and Palermo.

Chievo Verona have revealed that Franco Semioli’s proposed move to Fiorentina has hit problems.

The Italian international was all set to join the Viola after Chievo’s relegation, but a number of other clubs may hijack the move.

“The Semioli situation has stalled,” revealed Gialloblu sporting director Giovanni Sartori. “There are other clubs who have made better offers compared to the one presented by Fiorentina.

“We set a price for the player 10 days ago and all the clubs who have asked us for him are aware of it.

“The difference with Fiorentina is significant. Not so much with what we are asking, but between what [Fiorentina sporting director] Pantaleo Corvino is offering and what we might get from other clubs.”

Sartori refused to reveal which teams have expressed their interest in the 26-year-old, but Roma and Palermo have been heavily associated in recent times.

“These might be the sides I was referring to,” added Sartori. “All I can say if that the fee we are after is an important figure.”

The player’s agent, Marcello Bonetto, had declared last week that his client was on the verge of signing for the Tuscan giants.

Roma are moving for Chievo Verona winger Franco Semioli.
After admitting yesterday that talks with Fiorentina had "stalled", Chievo sports chief Giovanni Sartori revealed: "Semioli to Roma? It could happen, even if they're not the only team which is interested in Franco. There is also Palermo, two foreign teams and Fiorentina."

Roma are willing to offer Stefano Okaka on-loan in part-exchange for Semioli, who is rated at £4.5 million by Sartori.

Meanwhile, it seems highly likely that Chievo’s Azzurri winger Franco Semioli will be wearing the Viola shirt next season.

The Turin-born star has been looking for a new club since the Flying Donkeys’ relegation to Serie B and it is believed a deal will be made official within the next few days.

Official: Semioli Joins Fiorentina

Winger Franco Semioli has signed a 4-year contract with the Viola.


Chievo’s Franco Semioli has been purchased by Fiorentina through a 6 million euros offer. The winger has joined the Viola on the same day as Christian Vieri, signing a 4-year contract. The striker joined on a single-season contract.



Chievo sporting director Sartori explained what determined Semioli’s move to Fiorentina.



“His decision to move to Fiorentina has made this transfer possible,” said Sartori. “I wish Franco all the best because he deserves it. With us he always played very well and I hope that with the Viola he would get an opportunity to play with the Azzurri.”



Franco Semioli was part of Torino’s youth team and played in the Serie B before he moved to Chievo in 2003. His stint at the Verona-based club lasted for 4 years. For Chievo he has played a total of 133 matches and has scored 9 goals.

Semioli's step up to Fiorentina Friday 20 July, 2007

Franco Semioli is excited at “finally getting into real football” with his move to Fiorentina alongside Christian Vieri.

Although his time at Chievo earned him two Italy caps and a role as an alternate at the 2006 World Cup, Semioli believes his career has only just begun.

“I wanted to leave Chievo and join Fiorentina at all costs,” said the midfielder in his presentation Press conference.

“I had four wonderful seasons there and was treated well, but Fiorentina represent a turning point, with the kind of passionate fans I never had at Chievo. Basically, now I am finally getting into real football.”

The Viola are restructuring their entire tactical system in the wake of Luca Toni’s move to Bayern Munich and Semioli thinks it can give him a starring role.

“I can play either on the left or the right wing. My natural role is on the right, but last season I barely played there at all. I think with this system I’ll be able to focus more on attacking and maybe scoring a few more goals.

“I hope that Fiorentina will help me get back into the Azzurri squad. It is an exciting challenge and the Tuscan club was foremost in my mind for the motivation and projects in place.”

The Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit made two new signings in less than 24 hours, as Vieri joined Semioli.

The former Inter, Milan and Juventus star will attend pre-season training in Castelrotto tomorrow and have his Press conference.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina defeated local side Team Alpe di Siusi 13-0 in today’s test. Adrian Mutu and Arturo Lupoli bagged a hat-trick apiece.

Other scorers were Manuel Pasqual, Samuel Di Carmine (2), Matthias Lepiller (2), Fabio Liverani and an own goal.
