Luca Toni to have foot surgery
Quote:
Toni to have foot surgery Friday 18 May, 2007
Bayern Munich target Luca Toni may have played his last game for Fiorentina after it was revealed he will undergo surgery.
The striker hasn’t appeared for the Viola since the Week 33 game against Lazio in late April with a recurring left foot problem that will require an operation.
As a result, the attacker will miss his club’s last two League games of the season against Messina and Sampdoria.
“In consideration of Luca Toni’s painful metatarsal and after consultations with Professor Marco Bardelli, it has been decided to proceed with surgery to desensitise the nerve in the next few days,” read a club statement.
The World Cup winner, who will turn 30 next week, has been heavily paired with a summer move and is allegedly close to signing for Bayern.
“Toni, with the agreement of the club, is free to choose his own future,” admitted President Andrea Della Valle at the weekend. “There is little chance that he will remain in Florence.”
It’s unclear how long Toni will be sidelined for, but he is now a doubt for Italy’s Euro 2008 qualifiers at the start of June against the Faroe Islands and Lithuania.
The Azzurri are currently fourth in the Group B standings, two points behind the Ukraine, Scotland and France.
Toni has netted 16 League goals this term and has been a major player in their remarkable UEFA Cup bid seeing as they started the season on minus 15.
They now need just one point from their last two matches to ensure European football next season.

Ahhh i guess he was telling the truth when everyone thought he was going to Bayern and Fiorentina were resting him. Hope he feels better and recovers soon. Will this effect the Azzurri? Will be be ok by June 2? Or June 6?

I doubt it, Donadoni won't risk him.

Plus we've got enough options up front, like I said there's no need to risk him.

Against Faroe Islands, i'm not concerned, but against Lithuania, we need to be a bit more cautious and really attack. Who do you guys think will get the starting positions up front? Gilardino, ADP?

Yeah, most likely.
Rocchi, Di Natale and Quagliarella in contention as well.

Rocchi, Quagliarella have calmed down lately. Maybe because both clubs knew their fate in the table and didn't come out as strong.

Maybe, but they're always going to have ups and down.
Bianchi should get his chance as well.

I'm hoping Quagliarella gets another shot...with more playing time. Italy could do with a friendly after these qualifiers as well.
