He's more of a winger than a striker really, good player though.

I reckon he'd suit the way Fiorentina play, they've started to use a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Viola to capture Cacia? Tuesday 21 August, 2007

Reports in Italy suggest that Fiorentina have signed an agreement with Piacenza striking star Daniele Cacia.

The 23-year-old hitman has developed a fearsome reputation in Serie B after hitting 32 goals in 65 games since 2005 for the Papaveri and is seen as a great prospect for the future.

It is believed that Cacia was in Florence on Monday to talk to Viola officials about a deal that would see him make the switch to the Stadio Artemio Franchi in January.

Were it not for regular injury problems it is likely that the Calabrian marksman would already have found a top-flight side and he is currently recovering from a fibula complaint.

The Gigliati’s interest in Cacia comes as something of a surprise given that they have already added veteran Christian Vieri, Arturo Lupoli and Argentine striker Pablo Osvaldo to their offensive ranks.

I'm surprised Viola hasn't done more in the mercato this summer. I think they are one quality midfielder short of being really competitive....

Honestly, I tend to agree with you. However they do have a youth movement in place, and I think the days of Fiorentina spending wisely, are out. This team is taking the smart way out, by building with youth, and spending within their means.

They did sign this kid though.....

Quote:
Fiorentina have confirmed whispers that they have agreed a deal to sign Piacenza starlet Daniele Cacia.

The player was hotly linked with the Viola this morning and the Serie A side have officially announced the capture of the striker this evening.

The 23-year-old has been netted in a co-ownership deal with the Papaveri for a reported fee of around £2.8m.

However, as part of the agreement, the promising Italian will remain with the Serie B side until December 31, 2007, before the two clubs meet up to decide his next step.

Fiorentina want the potential star to start playing regular first team football again given the serious leg injury which he suffered last season.

Cacia, who was also being watched by Juventus amongst many other clubs, has scored an impressive 32 goals in just 65 appearances for Piacenza.

He becomes the latest youngster to join the Franchi revolution after the captures of Anthony Vanden Borre and Arturo Lupoli earlier this summer.

It is very evident that Fiorentina are stil hampered by budgetary constraints, hence lack of signings.

I'm quite excited about Kuzmanovic, who I think has the potential to be the best of Fiorentina's promising crop of young players (even better than Pazzini). His performance last night did not go unnoticed.

Pazzini sees life after Luca Thursday 23 August, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fiorentina striker Giampaolo Pazzini claims that he is ready to take on Luca Toni’s goal scoring burden.

The Viola reluctantly let Toni leave for Bayern Munich this summer and the Gigliati’s remaining hitmen have been left with the daunting task of recreating his tally.

Toni hit a remarkable 47 goals in 67 games after joining Fiorentina from Palermo in the summer of 2005 and was the first player to score more than 30 goals in a season since 1958-59 with his Capocannoniere tally of 31 in 2005-06.

Although Pazzini doesn’t have such a prolific pedigree, the talented 23-year-old is one of the peninsula’s brightest prospects and believes he can step up to the mark after extending his contract until 2011.

“Toni is gone and we’re sad about that, but we need to carry on with our journey,” he insisted.

“I am glad to be staying here. It was a decision I made a long time ago and I will repay the club’s trust.”

Fiorentina host a Tuscan derby against Empoli on Sunday at the Stadio Artemio Franchi with Pazzini likely to start in front of Adrian Mutu and Argentine forward Mario Santana.

Default Fiorentina Chasing Palladino

The Viola want the Juventus forward and are ready to pay 10 million Euros for the services of the young Italian attacker.

The Director of Sports of Fiorentina, Pantaleo Corvino, is trying to make one more important transfer for his team as the Tuscan club is trying to sign Raffaele Palladino from Juventus.

The Bianconeri's player is currently not finding too much space in the Old Lady's squad, with Iaquinta, Del Piero and Trezeguet all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Earlier in summer Juventus had declared that Palladino is not for sale and the Bianconeri stopped from trying to sign Giuseppe Rossi in order to focus on their own player for the future.

According to sources close to the Viola, the offer is of about 10 million Euros, and even though the Bianconeri have rejected the initial offer, the Turin based club might be tempted to let their young forward leave for that amount.

Fiorentina’s Czech defender Tomas Ujfalusi turned down a move to Liverpool this summer, according to agent Pavel Paska.

The 29-year-old international joined the Viola from Bundesliga side Hamburg in 2004 and has since become a fixture in the Gigliati defence.

While Ufo seems at home at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, it comes as something of a surprise that he refused a move to Anfield that could have seen a vast pay hike.

“When Jamie Carragher was injured, Rafael Benitez made us an offer, but Tomas refused it,” Paska told Sport.

“He really loves being in Florence and if he were to leave Italy he could only be tempted by an offer from Spain.

"I respected his decision, but I admit I was a little shocked as it is the kind of offer you only get once.”

Ujfalusi’s current contract with Fiorentina expires in June 2008 and as yet there are no plans to discuss an extension.

Prandelli storms San Siro Monday 3 September, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cesare Prandelli urged Fiorentina to fight European champions Milan for every ball if they are to get a positive result at San Siro this evening.

Their Serie A Week 2 match was put back until 17.00 UK time because the Rossoneri were in Montecarlo on Friday for the European Super Cup win over Sevilla.

“We are going to the home of the European champions who we saw play a great game on Friday,” warned Prandelli.

“We must fight them for every ball, counter their every move, as this is the only way to even hope of getting a result there. If we sit back and invite them forward, we run far too many risks.”

It is a challenge for the top of the table, as after two rounds only Juventus and Roma still have a 100 per cent record. Both Milan and Fiorentina have the opportunity to be the third club in that leading group.

“This will also be a useful test to see just what my team can do this season. In time we will aim for the Scudetto, but that is not necessarily our target right now.

“I don’t think that Milan will be physically drained from playing on Friday. If anything, they have the psychological advantage of that victory.”

Fiorentina make the trip to Lombardy without Riccardo Montolivo, who scored a sensational goal last week against Empoli, due to a muscular injury.

Franco Semioli is back in the side, but Mario Alberto Santana is expected to start in a 4-3-3 system alongside Giampaolo Pazzini and Adrian Mutu.

Alberto Gilardino could start for Milan against Prandelli, the man who launched his career at Parma.

“I don’t want to send a message out, as every time I compliment one of my former players they score against me!”

The Viola are back in the UEFA Cup this term and were drawn against Dutch side Groningen, but ex-Arsenal starlet Arturo Lupoli was left out of the squad for this competition.

“Unfortunately I only had 22 slots at my disposal and we had to exclude a few others as well. Arturo needs to work to improve every aspect and he will become a great player,” explained the tactician.

“We could have had a little more luck with the draw. Groningen are a good side who know how to play football and are very organised tactically.”

Fiorentina squad: Avramov, Dainelli, Donadel, Frey, Gamberini, Gobbi, Kroldrup, Kuzmanovic, Liverani, Lupatelli, Lupoli, Mutu, Osvaldo, Pasqual, Pazzini, Potenza, Santana, Semioli, Ujfalusi, Vanden Borre, Vieri.

we will see whr the storm will head though.

Various "dead" threads merged into this one

Question: What's the number one thing Fiorentina failed to sign this summer? A proper CM? A better replacement for Toni or perhaps a CB?

If I had to pick one, I'd say the striker situation is iffy-est, even if I think they are a CM short of being top quality.

The striker situation isn't that bad, they have numbers anyway.

Pazzini will get 15+ if he's given the playing time.

Viola eye Argentine ace Thursday 20 September, 2007

Fiorentina are chasing highly-rated Argentine midfielder Fernando Belluschi, according to reports in the peninsula.

Viola sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has returned from a fact-finding mission to South America and is allegedly set to urge the club to release nearly £10m for the promising 24-year-old.

Inter have already been linked with the River Plate star, but are unlikely to make an official approach in January.

The Albiceleste international earned a reputation as one of Argentina’s hottest prospects between 2002 and 2005 at Newell’s Old Boys, but his career is still waiting to truly take off with a move to Europe.

Fiorentina are in Holland tonight to face Dutch side Groningen in their opening UEFA Cup clash.

Riccardo Montolivo has shaken off an injury to make himself available to start and Adrian Mutu is also set to feature.

Defender Manuel Pasqual is the biggest doubt, so Federico Balzaretti is ready to step in.
