Fiorentina are concerned that their Stadio Artemio Franchi may be declared unfit for Champions League football by UEFA’s inspectors.
Cesare Prandelli's Viola were jubilant when they clinched fourth place last term and booked a place in Europe’s showpiece club competition.
But while their squad has been reinforced to compete at the highest level, their stadium may not be up to the challenge.
“I am very worried about the tests that UEFA will make at the stadium on Tuesday,” director Sandro Mencucci admitted.
“If the UEFA apply their rules vigorously then we won’t be able to play the games in Florence.
“We will work day and night to make sure that everything goes right and the venues has to be modified as quickly as possible.
“I don’t even want to think about the alternatives. I think that in the end we will get permission to play the preliminary round at the Artemio Franchi but we are looking for a permit for the whole competition.”
not just a blow for the viola but for the peninsula too, i mean as an italian i want the cl teams playing at their home turfs.
That's a dissapointment, I've quite liked the Franchi for a while, it is a stadium dedicated purely to football and it would be a shame if the beautiful city of Firenze won't get to host CL matches
