Fiorentina 2 - 1 Sampdoria
Quote:
|
Luca Toni had a dream debut for Fiorentina, scoring one and creating another for Stefano Fiore as they swept past Sampdoria. Curiously, it's the first time that Cesare Prandelli has won his first match of the season.
|
As I consider Sampdoria, one of Fiorentina's main rivals, this win for them is huge. Sign of things to come?
I might have to re-evaluate the club and where they will finish this year.

They must be fourth. They're a fine, fine team.

They will be dangerous in a year or two, if they keep the finances in check.

Early matches oft throw up freak results, and our home form has never been an issue either. Come back in a few weeks when we've got results at Messina and Lecce. Those are the sort of fixtures that left us in relegation trouble last term so will be a more telling test. If we perform in the next three games I'll be feeling a lot more optimistic.
I don't really know about that performance. I was only able to watch it with one eye, but we were demonstrating the same old flaws. Lots of possesion, but little end product. Moreover the misfiring Samp caused our 'defence' a worrying number of problems despite playing poorly throughout. If that game is a true indicator of both sides potential this season then I can't see either threatening the European places. On the plus side Toni seems a lot more agile and fleet of foot and Fiore is showing flashes of his old self.
Jag the finances are the thing that bothers me most. DDV isn't a bottomless pit, and we've been throwing money away all over the place over the past couple of years with very little to show for it. I'm really concerned at the daft policy to load the club with loanees alongside a handful of expensive purchases. We need to build a stable base first, but the win now mentality will cripple us if we are not very lucky.

Joys of working in the media. Well I say joy, but it can be a bloody pain in the neck. What should have been a two hour job this afternoon took me the best part of ten hours. Writers block is a pain in the arse at the best of times, but when you've got ten screens in front of you further distracting you with some thrilling sport it becomes a killer. Still that is what happens when someone foolishly asks me to work on cup final day

In my opinion, Salf is a little bit over critical of his team, and he has every right to be that way, given their troubled past. However I think the team is moving forward even faster than I originally thought was possible.
Fourth might be out of reach, however I think a UEFA cup spot is most certainly attainable.
Again, its just unfortunate Miccoli couldn't be there to lead this team. Maybe Juve will release Del Piero, and he'll take a huge pay cut so he can stick it to Juve.
:0 Just kidding to the Juventino!

i understand obodo wanted to leave....but surely he would have been superb for fiorentina this season....imagine this fiorentina side with him AND miccoli in it.
then i would say the sky is the limit with good management.

No idea..think he got half the game, Prandelli's toying with Valeri and Pazzini as a partner for Toni.

bojinov will be move alonged slowly by Prandelli. Fiorentina have a lot at stake with him. If he makes it, he will bring a lot of funds to the club.

ujfalusi would. but i agree if miccoli was there they would have probably challenged for fourth....maybe fifth. but bojinov and toni or finishers and not creators like miccoli was. if you play them both then i tink they are unbalanced.
