Next year's squad
Right so the season is over. We proved we're the best team in Portugal by winning the League by 20+ pts (fuck the Apito Dourado) and we did well in CL imo (fuck Neuer).
But, we'll need to do some adjustments in our current squad. We've already sold Bosingwa and Quaresma is likely to join him (I really don't think he'll stay and the group hug he was given after the match, gave me the impression that they were saying goodbye to him).
Lucho, Lisandro, B.Alves and P.Assunçao have also been linked with moves out, but Pinto da Costa has said that both Argentinians are nonnegotiable, Bruno signed a new contract a few weeks ago and Assunçao will either renew or leave for free in 2009.
I'd do the following:
GK:
- Helton, I think he should stay, although a bit dodgy at times, he is a good goalkeeper.
- Nuno, should definitely stay, a great option to have on the bench.
- Ventura, he looks pretty good, we should loan him out to a club that plays him regularly.
- Ruca, the 3rd GK.
FB:
- Fucile, he looks 3 times better at RB, but still not good enough to start for Porto. However, I'd keep him, he is a good reserve.
- Lino, I've been impressed by him, he looks pretty decent (had a good game today I thought). he should stay.
- Cech, get rid of him. I've never liked him and PAOK are interested, so goodbye.
- Ezequias, sell him.
CB:
- P.Emanuel, he will play his last season, should start at the begining of the season but then get less appearances as we reach the end of the season.
- B.Alves, best CB we've had since Carvalho IMO, I don't think Pepe was as solid as Bruno was this season, so he should be kept at all costs.
- Rolando, looks promising and good enough to start after Emanuel retires.
- Stepanov, looked really dodgy but seems to have improved a little bit, I'd keep him as 4th option.
- J.Paulo, fuck off to Greece please.
DM:
- P.Assunçao, best DM in Portugal, we need to get his contract renewed and fast!
- Bolatti, has looked poor all season, I say loan him out.
- Fernando, had a good season with Estrela and plays many different positions, so good utility player
- Castro, he looks very promising, should be our #2 DM next season.
CM:
- Kaz, he didn't get enough chances, but I'd let him go, preferably on loan.
- Ibson, he is amazing, we should bring him back ASAP.
- Lucho, our most influential player, 'nuff said.
- Meireles, still can't pass to save his life, but had a good season and he has a lot of heart. I say keep him
- T.Costa, I don't know if he's any good but since he cost 3.2m €, he'll stay with us.
- P.Machado, I really like this guy, but he needs one more season of regular first team football
AM:
- Quaresma, as I said above, I think the time as come for him to leave. If there's any chance though, I'd obviously keep him
- Tarik, good player, I'd keep him for one more year
- Mariano, I hate this guy, but we've already signed him it seems, so he'll stay...
- B.Gama, he needs another season as a regular starter before he returns home
- Vieirinha, same as above ^
- H.Barbosa, I hope he gets some playing time next season, he could be our Quaresma replacement.
- C.Pitbull, he looks like a good player and is good on set-pieces, so I'd give him a chance
- L.Aguiar, looks good, but not good enough.
ST:
- Lisandro, our best striker by a mile, should obviously stay.
- Farias, he is a good option to have on the squad IMO, I'd keep him.
- Edgar, waste of €€
- Adriano, I've never liked this guy, I say sell him.
- Postiga, I'm a big fan of Postiga so I'd bring him back.
- Rabiola, don't know what to do with him, a loan would probably be the best option.
- Renteria, he was pretty good in Brazil and had a decent season. should probably give him a go
Sign:
2 full-backs are needed. One for the right and one for the left.
I'd like us to bring back P.Ferreira from Chelsea, but that seems unlikely since he signed a new contract not too long ago and I can't see him returning to Portugal to earn 3 times less. We've been linked with Joao Pereira, not bad a option tbh and 2m € isn't that much so I'd bring him.
Other than those 2, I don't have any other suggestions for RB..
For LB, we've already signed Benitez, so I very much doubt we'll get anyone else. Hopefully he is good.
Other than those 2, and if we don't sell any of our other starters, I don't think we'll need anyone else.
