Default The Ricardo Quaresma appreciation thread - vote for the best goal!

(the best goals listed in the post below)

Ricardo Quaresma, for me the best winger in the world. He is a majestic player, one capable of doing whatever he wishes, the sky's the limit for Quaresma. One of the most memorizing players I've ever seen live, and a testament to our country's ability to produce world class players.

In his first match as a Porto player, he completely murdered Argel in the Super Cup final against Benfica and gave us a taste of what was coming. He didn't have the best of seasons, but was still able to produce some moments of magic.

In his second season, our first match was at home against Rio Ave. Quaresma was on the bench, we were 0-0 at the 80th minute, when Quaresma was brought on and he scored the goal of the year to give us the win. Quaresma had a great season in which he scored 5 goals in the league and got 11 assists. Another of his moments of pure magic.

In his third season, he had arguably the best season of his career. Quaresma was absolutely brilliant from start to finish, he scored 8 goals and got 14 assists. He scored the goal of the year once again against Benfica and proved to everyone that he was a world class player. A compilation of his best moments in 07-08.
Many clubs came for him during the summer, but he rejected the offers and decided to stay at Porto.

In his last season as a Porto player, he started off by giving us the win on the season opener, by scoring 2 goals against Braga. He had some poor games, but still contributed quite a lot and here is another great example of that, when he completely owned David Luiz to give us the win at Benfica's stadium. However, he had some problems with the Porto fans and was booed at some point. But unlike many others, he didn't quit the club, in fact, he renewed his contract and said he loved Porto. All this controversy didn't stop him to have his best season ever, in terms of numbers, as he scored 10 goals and made 12 assists. An example of what Quaresma can do to you.

He came to Porto, unlike many others, he stayed, he saw our stars come and go, his time was never up, he did it all for us, and he's become a cult hero and legend for the Dragões. I wish him the best.

Ricardo Quaresma, forever a Porto legend. We will never forget you.
Thank you for all the memories.

"Well, that was fun... in a fuckin' terrible, sick, not-at-all-fun way."

Ricardo Quaresma: forever a Porto legend. Thank you for all the memories.

Firstly, this post is greatly deserving of a rep and you got one.

Secondly, Even as a life-long Benfica fan I can admit that I admire Quaresma. I believe he is a greatly skilled player who has been unluckly in his career and gets too much crap for this. He was intelligent to stay at Porto and fine tune his skills. He will do Portugal proud at Inter because he knows this is a great opportunity. I voted for his goal against Benfica in the 2006/2007 season, I regard it as one of the greatest opposition goals scored against Benfica.

Edit: One more thing: Even though I didn't want to mention Ronaldo in here because I believe people compare these two way too much I'd just like to say that I find Quaresma to be more of a natural player then him. This has been mentioned before and its obvious to me, When Quaresma dribbles or tries out a trick he is walking, natural.

I voted for that goal, but to clarify it was in estadio do dragao and porto won the match 3-2 in a fantastic match.

I voted for that goal because it was done in a classico in a epic 3-2 win. he wrong foots the defender, and from a standing position hits the ball with such viscious power and curl it just sails into the net. outstanding goal, but hes scored plenty of beautiful goals even when he was at Sporting he had memorable goals.

Great post my friend. Ricardo Quaresma is truly a fantastic player and deserves respect from every single football fan. What he achieved in a Porto jersey is fantastic, he is undoubtedly one of the best wingers in the world and will go down as a Porto legend.

For me his best goal was the one against Rio Ave, that was phenomenal.

He hasn't reached legendary status across the world yet but Porto fans are appreciative of his work!

He has a chance to be a integral part with Inter.... a superstar!

I agree with that, I'm pretty sure he will do well at Inter and will prove to everyone why he is amongst the top 5 players in the world.

I second that. Ronaldo looks a bit robotic at times, whereas with Quaresma, it all seems natural as you said.

that pretty much sums it up why I voted for that one as well.

Good call. It's my 3rd favorite goal (after the 2 against Benfica, not counting the murder of Argel) and probably his most spectacular one.

Of course, he gave it all for this club and deserves respect. One of the very few world class players, that played for Porto, who didn't throw a tantrum whenever we rejected an offer for him.

I agree, some people may laugh at the thought of Quaresma being top 5 in the world but if he puts in the type of performances he did for Porto at Inter they will believe. Portuguese League bias, a player is never good until he steps foot outside of Portugal (Bosingwa, Pepe, Simao, and many more) but while they are in Portugal they are good because the players around them are weaker .

I think "ownage of the Luiz" defender really takes the cake.

This guy is exactly what we needed to compliment our physical midfield.

I think he truely has the ability now to go to levels that we have not seen. He is still young, he will round off his game now.

I just want to give compliments to Pele, who Inter did not want to give up, and this is apparently the reason this thing took so long.

Oh well, class player in Italy. Inter's first "magic man" in a very long time, I can't wait, I've been waiting for so long for a player like this.
