Porto looking at Orlando Engelaar
According to the Dutch press, he is on our list.
Offensive midfield, 28 years old, from FC Twente.
**abola.pt - «A BOLA on-line»
It seems he has been doing well this season, thats what the article says anyway.
Transfermarkt says he's got 4 goals and 1 assist in the Dutch league. Not bad

Engelaar is a great player, i love him. Very good Twente midfielder, Ajax are said to be chasing him too.
Twente are asking 15 million euro for him (it's nice to see players from smaller dutch teams go for so much, like Luis Suarez around 10 million, Alves 20 million and now Engelaar perhaps 15). Ajax have said that this price is not a problem for them.

Thanks.
Well I'm not sure Porto would be willing to pay 15m € for a 28 year old, though since he is a playmaker (that's what I read, I'm not sure), he could turn out a good option, as we're most likely losing Lucho or Quaresma or both in the summer.
Do you think he would adapt to Portugal ? And would he choose Porto over Ajax ?

15 million sounds a bit steep, especially for Porto

Yes, why not? The leagues are quite comparable and Dutch players never have much trouble adapting to other leagues.

I don't think so to be honest.
15 million is indeed a bit steep, but then again he is 1 of the best players of the league. He could turn out to be very good for Porto, just look at Sektioui. He wasn't even 1 of the best players of AZ, yet he has been excellent for Porto from what i've seen

Well I can't remember the last Dutch to play in Portugal, other than Arvid Smith, who was shit for Maritimo (though he never looked like a good player and was on loan so I won't judge Dutch players based on him).

Thought so too. Though who knows, the fact that we'll play in CL next season might swing it in our favor.

Considering that we're most likely losing 1 or both of our 2 main creators (Lucho, Quaresma), I'm sure we'll invest in a playmaker, if a good deal comes.

but Sektioui improved his game a lot since he signed for us, he couldn't shoot to save his life, now he has good finishing compared to most of our offensive players and he actually looks faster now than how he looked like when he first arrived.

Who?? Never heard of him lol Can't have been a big star in Holland, i wouldn't compare him to Engelaar

Ah okay in Holland pace was 1 of his main qualities. He suited the way AZ played well.

Definitely not a star, he has been signed as a free agent then loaned out or years, his transfer history
Oh yeah, just recalled 2 Dutch players in Portugal both CBs and played for Maritimo Mitchel Van der Gaag (was class), and van der Linden (looks good for a mid table team).

They missed CL in the last 2 seasons I think.

He become older but also faster, I know it doesn't really make much sense, but it's true.
I didn't like him or rate him at first, but he developed in a very good winger, his stats so far this season:
Tarik Sektioui - 4 goals (3 league goals + 1 CL goal) + 1 assist
I know it's not very impressive, but he has been really good

They qualified for the pre-liminaries but then got knocked out. Let's hope they have learned their lesson now.
Yeh i do know Van der Gaag, looked good indeed There was also another Dutch player in Portugal i think, can't recall his name now.

Can't recall anymore Dutch players tbh mate. But if Engelaard is at least as good as Tarik, I'm happy.
Btw, Arvid played today (for Leiria) and was really poor

It's Engelaar* mate In our league he has been much better, so there's a fair chance he will be better in Portugal too.
