They had a miserably CL debut.
We could kick them while they're down.
But it will also depend on how we do tomorrow.

I rather expect the opposite thing.
I think now the team will be extra motivated to beat Bayern.

Ribery in, Klose out?
Quote:
FC Bayern's Franck Ribery is fired up to make his comeback when Werder Bremen come to Munich on Saturday.
The Frenchman remained in Munich to train while his team-mates got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start in Bucharest.
The winger did intensive sessions with assistant coach Nick Theslof and fitness coach Oliver Schmidtlein in a bid to finally make his comeback from the ankle injury he suffered at the EURO 2008.
Ribery is confident and even declared: "I hope that I can start against Bremen!"
Klose doubtful
It's doubtful whether he'd do so alongside Miroslav Klose, however.
The striker had to be substituted in Bucharest after taking a thigh knock.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch the match myself. I will find out only when the match starts.
Btw, we'll be without Ribéry for the match (he is definately not injured as some reports say. Bayern doc says he has a very normal muscle hardening because he trained very hard in the last few days. Doc said there would be no problems if Ribéry would play tomorrow, but there is always a potential risk. So, if everything goes as expected, Franck will make his comeback on Wednesday in the Cup match against FC Nürnberg)
Also, Klose is still rated doubtful.

I am still curious to see what the actual lineup will be. All I know is Werder are missing 2 very important defensive players with Fritz and Frings out, and they had already had defensive problems even with them in the squad. And even though all these analysts like to talk about how Werder is a great attacking team and they will go all out for the attack, they need to watch it as this year Bayern have been trained to move the ball quickly and attack even better than last year -- and we have been doing excellent of late even without Ribery.
So I would love to see Werder come at us on our home field, and leave their backend open for us to punish them. And besides, they were a really great attacking team last year, things aren't quite clicking for them currently, especially with Pizarro in the forward lineup.
I think we'll pull off a 3-1 win against Werder and compound their problems. I hope to see Borowski giving it all against his former club, and maybe even Klose if he recovers in time.

Champions v runners-up
Preview: Bayern eye Werder scalp and top spot
Quote:
The traditional cry of O’zapft is! to mark the tapping of the first barrel at the Oktoberfest will ring out at midday on Saturday for the 175th time in the event’s history, but the start of the world’s biggest folk festival is of little consequence to the Bayern playing staff. The club’s focus is on 3.30 in the afternoon and kick-off in the Bundesliga’s match of the day when Werder Bremen visit the Allianz Arena. “We intend to show them who’s boss,” insisted Daniel van Buyten, “Bremen won’t take any points.“
What the Oktoberfest does mean for Bayern is a superb home record in games played while the festival is on, comprising 47 wins, 18 draws and just six defeats in 71 such matches. The champions are aiming to extend that impressive streak on Saturday with their third league win in a row. Victory over Bremen, consistently Bayern’s most potent challengers in recent years, would see the champions put six points between themselves and last season’s runners-up and also go top of the Bundesliga, at least until leaders Hamburg visit Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Rather be hunted than the hunter
“It’s one of the most important matches of the season,” commented Martin Demichelis. The aim was to go top “as quickly as possible,” stated Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Added Michael Rensing: “It’s much better to be hunted than the hunter, so we want top spot back as soon as we can. And once we’re up there, we won’t let go.“
However, Bayern are well prepared for “a very difficult match,“ as Jürgen Klinsmann warned. “Tomorrow is a very different affair compared to Bucharest. Bremen will push us to the limit, but we’ll make sure our attitude reflects that,” the coach remarked. Van Buyten feels “it’ll be a hotly-contested match.“
Misfiring Bremen
By contrast with the increasingly assured Bavarians, Werder are not yet up to speed this term. Coach Thomas Schaaf’s men had not won until last weekend in their worst start to a league season in seven years. Their midweek Champions League meeting with Cypriot underdogs Anorthosis Famagusta ended in a drab goalless draw.
“Bayern set the standards at the moment,” admitted Schaaf, “we’ll need to show we’ve learned from our recent matches.“ Bremen came away with a point from 1-1 draws in their last two trips to Munich. “Bayern are probably favourites, but it’s not as though we don’t have a chance. We’re aiming to get a result,” advised managing director Klaus Allofs. “The Bayern game is our chance to improve the situation in a big way,” remarked new signing Claudio Pizarro.
Four out for Werder
The former FCB man will be determined to score for the first time since rejoining Bremen when he returns to the Allianz Arena. “Diego and Pizarro are both great players,” warned Demichelis. “Werder are a good attacking side, but I think they’re vulnerable in defence.“
Nevertheless, the mood in the FCB camp remains cautious. “Bremen will be up for it. We’re facing wounded lions,” admonished former Werder stalwart Tim Borowski. “They won’t come here with their heads down. There’s no way we’ll underestimate them,“ said Rummenigge, although the visitors are without regulars Torsten Frings (strain), Clemens Fritz (flu), Daniel Jensen (Achilles) and Hugo Almeida (back). Klinsmann nevertheless described the northerners as “one of our biggest Bundesliga rivals“.
Ribéry still missing
Footballer of the Year Franck Ribery had nurtured hopes of a comeback from a three-month lay-off in the weekend’s big match, but he will again be omitted as a precaution. Miroslav Klose is also doubtful after sustaining a dead leg in Bucharest, but Munich are doubly determined to recover top spot in the standings. “We want to keep up our recent momentum,” Van Buyten declared, “because if we do, it’ll be hard to beat Bayern at the Allianz Arena.“ Especially during the Oktoberfest...

*- Thorsten Kinhofer will referee the match. He refereed in the season opener against Hamburg (2-2). He also refereed our only two defeats of last season in Stuttgart and Cottbus, and the 1-1 draw against Bremen at the Allianz Arena.
