How do you rate our season ?
After a summer in which we made several transfers, spent a record 75m € in the off season, to sign the likes of Franck Ribery and Luca Toni, expectations were high at the start of the season.
We started off pretty well by owning Bremen in the Liga Pokal, then beat Stuttgart and Schalke to win the competition.
We were playing some amazing football and were great in the first few months. 4-0 at the Weser comes to my mind. We hit a bit of a slump at the end of October/start of November, with a few disappointing results, not only in the Bundesliga but also in the Uefa Cup. Our performances in the Cup weren't too good either.
We recovered a bit of form in December and were able to maintain our lead. In the restart in January we were doing well in league, but cup performances were still a bit sketchy and weren't all that good in the Uefa Cup.
Still, we ended up reaching the final of the Liga Pokal, in which we beat Dortmund 2-1, then lost in the semi-finals to Zenit (5-1 on agg.) but secured the title win last weekend.
Basically, this was our season:
Won Liga Pokal
Won DFB Pokal
Won Bundesliga
Reached the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup
So how do you rate our season?
options are:
Excellent
Very Good
Good
Average
Poor
Very Poor
Abysmal

Good.
We covered the "basic" titles that we had to obtain. Prove we're top dog in Germany.
But the UEFA Cup was an incredebly important title, IMO. Yeah. We made it to the semi-finals but whatever. We didn't win it. Still a bit upset about it. We didn't give it enough heart and didn't take fully advantage of the chances we had... And it bit us in the ass later.
But as i said, it was a Good season.

It was a Very Good season, apart from winning the german titles we proved that we have quality to sign stars when we like and know how to play quality football, in both in europe and in the domestic scene, unlucky we werent fit for against those drug dealing mother fucking russians. Although it has to be said we DID play bad at russia, but it is also a fact that THEY DIDNT EVEN START PLAYING THEIR LEAGUE, so it was obvious that they are more fitter and more in shape than we were, because of their win against us and reached the final, they postoned all their league encounters till after the Uefa Cup final. Anyway, great football this season by Bayern, great display both on and off the pitch.

We've had a very good season. I'd say almost excellent.
The Bundesliga was the main priority, and we have achieved that.
Would have been good if we won UEFA, but still, even the semi-finals ain't bad when you look it.
It has been a tiring season, that has ended successfully and glorious for us.
And yeah, I like the last option of the poll.

I agree with you. For me the Uefa Cup title was more important than DFB Pokal or Liga Pokal, by a mile, and at least on the same level as the BL.

We didn't really prove our dominance where it mattered the most, which was in Europe. Dominating in Germany is not as hard as you're making it out to be.

What is wrong with the lot of you? we had an excellent season. IMO we gained some good signings, and won everything but the UEFA cup, but hit the semi finals on that. If we won the UEFA cup it would have been beyond exceptional. But excellent is a good term for our season, and we don't have to win the UEFA cup to do it. Staying first place all season with a kick-ass defense who is breaking records in my book is excellent.

burn O_K, we're sick of polls!
Lol, Seriously it was Good.
you have mentioned all the good things in this season, but the disappointing thing is that when we have the test of our Reputation we fail, more than one time,
1) we got a draw against Braga ( Portugal )
2) 2-2 Red star (we struggled)
3) Bolton at home 2-2
4) Getafe at home
5) The fucking Z word (Zenit) at home
we give the haters more reasons to say that we are not top Class, they can point at every single even from those mentioned above and say against X you struggle, imagine ManU or Barca .....

Bayern always struggled against 'smaller' teams.
Tell those haters wait for September to come. I ain't scared of any team.

Season in review | Van Bommel: Chemistry was there from the start
In his second season at Bayern, Mark van Bommel confirmed his status as one of the leading personalities in the team. fcbayern.de now presents the Dutch midfielder’s take on the successful 2007-8 campaign. In part one, Mark focuses on the Bundesliga.
Mark van Bommel’s review of the season, part 1
”I’ve usually won a trophy in my first season with a new club, but it took a little longer with Bayern. However, the treble of the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the League Cup takes me to 16 trophies in my career, which isn’t bad. Obviously you have a good chance of silverware with Bayern, but against that, the pressure here is enormous. Before the season, everyone expected us to win the league, the Cup and the UEFA Cup, but that made the task even more difficult. I think we still succeeded in coping well with the pressure.
With the exception of a few games here and there we were outstanding as a team, and that wasn’t necessarily to be expected. Eight new players arrived in the summer and nine moved on. You don’t get that kind of turnover very often at a club like Bayern, and it’s certainly something I’d never experienced before. But the board pulled off the difficult task of brining in players who possessed the right quality and still fitted in with the team. The chemistry was there right from the start and the atmosphere in the team was good, we got on with each other both on and off the field, there were no cliques, and that was the basis for our success.
You could see we were all pulling together on the field of play. We had a good feeling as early as pre-season, and that was confirmed when we won the League Cup. We played Bremen, Stuttgart and Schalke, the three teams who finished ahead of us last term – and we beat the lot. It sent out a strong signal to our rivals.
And then we played Burghausen. We’ve just been talking about it again in Jakarta: along with Getafe, Burghausen was one of the turning points of the season. It was the first “real“ fixture of the season after the League Cup, and that can tell you a lot about how the campaign is going to go. If we’d been knocked out of the Cup in Burghausen, we’d have faced a storm of criticism right at the start, but thanks to Olli we made it through on penalties, and we followed that with a good start in the Bundesliga.
The first highlight was our 4-0 win in Bremen on matchday 2, a terrific moment for the whole group. We won our first three matches without conceding a goal. That helped maintain the excellent mood in the dressing room and we kept playing some good football. We only hit a rut after the 2-1 win in Bochum on matchday 10, but that’s normal for a team with eight new players. There’ll always be a rough patch, and ours wasn’t too bad really.
We didn’t play such good football in this phase, but we only lost once (to Stuttgart). And in the goalless draws at home to Frankfurt and Duisburg we were simply unlucky. I think we loosed off 50 shots at goal in both games, but the ball just didn’t want to cross the line. Bremen came closer and closer, and we were only top at the halfway point on goal difference. We weren’t worried, but we had to show a reaction, and we did that in the second half of the season.
We started well after the winter break. We beat Wuppertal in the Cup, we were victorious against Rostock and Hanover, and draws against Bremen and Hamburg are perfectly acceptable. Our 2-1 win against Leverkusen a week after our second defeat of term in Cottbus was very important. Leverkusen were only six points behind us at the time, and HSV just four. We shook both of them off from then on.
After that it took care of itself. We played some great stuff against Dortmund (5-0), Frankfurt (3-1) and Stuttgart (4-1), and we also won the DFB Cup in between times. A point in Wolfsburg was enough to wrap up the title with three games to spare, and that in the absence of six or seven injured regulars. Even though we had the league in the bag, we kept it up right to the end of the campaign, we won all our matches and played well too.“

Van Bommel's review | 'Getafe was the best game of the season'
In his second season at Bayern, Mark van Bommel confirmed his status as one of the leading personalities in the team. fcbayern.de now presents the Dutch midfielder’s take on the successful 2007-8 campaign. In the second and concluding part, Mark reviews the UEFA Cup, the departure of Oliver Kahn and Ottmar Hitzfeld, and his own performances.
Mark van Bommel’s review of the season, part 1:
“We found the going tough in the UEFA Cup last term. We muddled through to be honest. We were ultimately too good for Belenenses in the first round, but we were lucky to finish top of our group. It’ll never be easy for Bayern in the UEFA Cup. It’s always the biggest game of the season for our opponents, they’ll run until they drop, and we can only end up losers.
We were also unlucky with the draw for the knockout phase. Manchester United have just won the Champions League – but after the group stage, they were always away from home first and then at home for the return. The draw helped us in 2006 when I was with Barcelona, but last term we were only at home in the second leg against Aberdeen and Anderlecht, and we ran up comfortable victories against both.
And then we faced Getafe. The 3-3 draw in the return in Spain was the best game of the season, and I’ll often think back on it. We were lucky, but we also showed tremendous will to win. In the semis against St. Petersburg we threw it away at home. We deservedly led 1-0 and could have been further ahead, but we went and conceded an unlucky equaliser instead. If we’d won the match 2-0 or 3-0, we’d have made it to the final, I’m convinced of that. The 4-0 defeat in St. Petersburg was a case of a bad day for us against good opponents. The defeat was much too heavy, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.
A few thoughts on my own performances: I think I was very consistent across the season, which was one of the best of my career. I didn’t score that many goals – two in the league and one in the UEFA Cup, with five assists overall, but I played for the team and I’m highly valued by the club. That’s a good feeling. The only thing I was angry about was my suspension after the Hamburg clash. I managed to tarnish my own performance with a moment of madness. That was just stupid.
I’d also like to say a few words about Oliver Kahn and Ottmar Hitzfeld, who are both leaving the Bundesliga. I’m proud I had the chance to work with the pair. The way Olli lives for football, his charisma, his personality – I always liked every aspect of it. He’s rounded off his career with a terrific season and we’ve given him a fitting send-off. It’s a shame Ottmar’s leaving us. He’s always had the dressing room under control, and he’s succeeded in keeping everyone happy, which isn’t easy with so many good players. His departure is a loss for Bayern and the Bundesliga, but it’s the right thing for him to do.
Our Germany internationals only have good things to say about Ottmar’s successor Jürgen Klinsmann. It’ll be a new era for Bayern, and I’m totally open to new ideas which help bring us on as individuals and a team. However, the whole thing hinges on success to a certain extent. If you succeed, you’ve done everything right. I hope we can build on our success this season, but in the first instance, I’m looking forward to going on holiday.“
