Default What the hell is going on?!!

Not sure how out of line I am with this thread, but I wanted to vent and get everyone's views on Bayern slipping whever they have a chance to get ahead. We saw at the end of the first half of the season how they tied many games which opened up the title race. We have seen so far in this second half of the season where they tied with two of their closest rivals. Bayern had talked up how strong they would be this year, but I haven't seen it except at the very beginning. Bayern have no chance of going far with this squad even next season in the Champions League, unless they can dispose of teams like Werder, Shalke or HSV. and With Shalke yet to come up, and even Leverkusen -- who are doing amazing. Is it the coach? the lack of desire? being too much in the limelight as super stars? Toni, Ribery and even Ze Roberto, who are super stars, are really the bright spots at Bayern. Some of the younger players shows positive signs. Yet every team out there that plays Bayern, whether its in the bundesliga or the uefa cup, wants to do amazing things against Bayern, including many that want to start turning their season around. Its not just the players, but if Bayern are to win anything this season, as well as go strong in the next, then they need to change their underlying mentality.

to give a short reply:

that's soccer !

ok longer reply:
Just look elsewhere: Real Madrid is leading the spanish league and still they slip up against 2-1 vs Betis and 1-0 vs Getafe tonight. Same for most of the other leagues. The other teams just can kick too.....

I really don't see it that tragic. I would be concerned if we played really bad, but how many chances did HSV have tonight ? one ! And bayern had 10-15. And I don't see our team that badly either. Hell we are 4 points ahead in the table now and still in all competitions. Soccer is just no maths where you can calculate every game. I'm really not that concerned.

What's bugging me is the late subs and not enough playing time for some players. But overall I'm not really worried that we are not gonna win at least 2 titles this year

My blame is towards Hitz.

He seems like if he can't tell which players give it all in the pitch and which don't. Yes, some players tend to lose a bit of their performance at some point but that's why there is depth in the squad. I should have started the 2nd half with Poldi right away.

Schweini really needs some time on the bench too.

Bottom line, poor decisions by the coach.

Also, some desire of winning for some players wouldn't hurt neither.

Also, a good portion of teams we play are so scared they're going to get blown out, they shut down into 4-5-1's and play for ties or the occasional lucky goal.

While I'm not trying to make excuses, it certainly contributes...

Here is an article from soccernet that outlines what I am trying to say with my thread:

Quote:
BERLIN, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich cannot afford to keep living by the saying that charity begins at home when they play local rivals TSV 1860 Munich in the German Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Bayern should have had the Bundesliga title all but secured by now but they have let direct rivals off the hook in their last two league games at the Allianz Arena, managing only draws with Werder Bremen and Hamburg SV.

They remain well placed, with a four-point lead after 21 games, but they should be even better off and coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will demand a touch more ruthlessness for Wednesday's city derby against their groundshare partners.

"We had Hamburg under control on Sunday yet we let two points slip," Hitzfled told reporters after the 1-1 draw. "It's very annoying."

Second division 1860 Munich, nominally the away team on Wednesday, warmed up for the Cup derby with a goalless draw away to Cologne, a result that leaves them four points away from the promotion places.

There will be two other second division sides bidding for semi-final places when ambitious 1899 Hoffenheim visit Borussia Dortmund and Carl Zeiss Jena play at VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday.

The other quarter-final is an all-Bundesliga affair on Wednesday between VfL Wolfsburg and Hamburg.

I feel that Bayern have been living the charity begins at home philosophy and need to get way more ruthless.

Again. I do not see a problem. Yes there are several topics that i ahve been also complaining about for months now:
- our late subs
- too strict tactic formations that hurts us especially vs. all out defensive teams
- not benching players that are in poor form

BUT. As i said before. Look at Real Madrid. They lost 4 straight now. Look at the Bostons Celtics. that are only 6-4 in the last 10. Look at the Patriots who lost in the Super Bowl after a perfect season.
There has never been a team in any sport that dominated in EVERY single game.

I mean looking back at the 2000/2001 season we won the champions league.
We only won the bundesliga title in that year in the LAST game by a shot from Anderson in the 94th minute.

You just have to be realistic about some things...

^Bostons Celtics? Celtic have been doing well and are just below the Rangers. True they haven't been perfect.

I do see what you are saying that many teams out there have times when they struggle, but I am looking only at Bayern and the Bundesliga in general, and am just looking for what everyone thinks are the specific causes. I feel that Bayern will win the championship -- but Bayern can always improve. With this squad, it would be nice not to repeat some of what happened last year with the old squad of Makaay, Pizzaro, etc.
